With Quicken you could be using either Direct Connect or the proprietary Web Connect.

The institutions known to support Direct Connect and that Moneydance has connection information for can be found at:

https://infinitekind.com/fi

Web connect is not something Moneydance can implement.

From your description it sounds like you may be trying to use Moneydance's internal implementation of a browser. This feature still needs a great deal of development and is known to have problems with many institutions.

If your institution does not support Direct Connect then the best option today is probably to download and import transaction files. OFX/QFX is the preference followed by QIF with CSV the last possibility.

The next version of Moneydance will support using a specific aggregator to download transactions as a further paid for service option. I cannot recommend that this new version be used for anything other than testing at this point in time.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494175512021-10-04T02:55:39Z2021-10-04T02:55:41ZConnecting Bank account - hung on internal browser

Thank you for the reply. Per that list, my credit union IS supported. But whenever I selected the Download menu option, it just opens the internal browser.

I decided to try a different tactic. I created a completely new account (ie: File->New and started a completely new session). I created my checking account in that new session. I entered the online banking information. MD says it now has most everything it needs to enable online banking.

Then when I select Download, it does nothing. :( It says there are no accounts to download in a status window at the bottom. I edited the account to confirm I put in the correct information, and I did. The only thing I did not fill in was the institution web site. Since it is listed as a connection option, I don't think that's necessary. But it's not working.

Not sure where to go next...

Bryantag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494175512021-10-04T07:07:38Z2021-10-04T07:07:38ZConnecting Bank account - hung on internal browser

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Bryam.

Did you follow the process in this support article?
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay/d...

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494175512021-10-04T10:35:05Z2021-10-04T10:35:05ZConnecting Bank account - hung on internal browser

Hi Bryan,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance, where the version and build number will be displayed.

Can you let us know which operating system you're running on your computer/s?
Which bank are you trying to connect with?

Please note that many financial institutions will require you to enable your accounts for application-based online banking. You can accomplish this by asking your bank to set up your account for direct connections from Quicken. Moneydance uses exactly the same OFX server connection protocol as Quicken but your bank representative may not know this and mistakenly believe that you can not connect in Moneydance.

Calling up your bank and stating precisely the following should get you started:

"Please enable direct connect on my account such that I can connect to your servers directly with Quicken. Also give me the login credentials I need to connect Quicken to this service."

Application-based online banking often requires a different login/PIN than the ones that are used for ATM or web-based banking. When you enable your account for access from Moneydance or Quicken, your financial institution should let you know what customer ID/login and PIN to use.

Alternatively, Moneydance 2022 (4045) is out now as a preview. This includes:
Moneydance + a premium service for downloading accounts and transactions from thousands of banks and brokerages. To sign up for a free trial, you can enter your email address after navigating to File/Moneydance->Moneydance +. If you wish to try out the new connection method, you should navigate to the Online->Setup Online Banking menu then choose the Moneydance+ option.
Here are the steps for setting up Moneydance+:
Moneydance will ask you for your email address and then “register” your email and the current file on the server, along with your current license key (if you have one).

The server will send a confirmation link and code to your email address. Clicking the link and entering the code will confirm that it is your email address, and that establishes your identity. It also links the data file to your identity.
Next, you see your “account” page on the MD+ server. If you don’t already have a Moneydance+ subscription then you see a subscribe button for either the add-on subscription or the full subscription (depending upon whether you had a license key in step 1)
When the full subscription goes through, MD+ will generate a license key and email it to you, and also store it on the server in your account there.

Once subscribed, you’ll be brought back to that page and should see a link to connect your accounts.
Clicking that will take you to Plaid where you can choose your bank/s, enter your login, or (usually) bounce over to your bank’s web site so that you can login directly and then it bounces you back to Plaid to make the connection.
Please be reassured that we never see any of the user’s bank login information, and the access tokens necessary for connecting to Plaid are encrypted in a way that can only be decrypted on the user’s computer using that data file. Also, that data file is never uploaded or stored on our servers.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thanks for your interest in Moneydance!

Yes I did. However, after selecting my institution from the list, I do NOT get the Authentication popup. Instead I get a popup titled "Online Banking Signup). It asks which account I am linking. I click next, and it asks me for information from my bank:

Routing #
Account #
Customer ID

So it's a different option than what that page shows...

@Maddy,

Windows 10 Pro
Version 2021.1 (3069)

The credit union is Star One. There are 2 options for them, I select the "new" option. This is what I also use with Quicken, have for years, so I know it is working/enabled.

Bryan
