Unable to see popup panel when unconfirmed downloded transaction is highlighted
I am evaluating Moneydance 2015 Trial version 2015.7 (1538) , running under Windows 10, with the intention of switching from Quicken no2013/16. Of particular importance to me is the downloading of transactions from my banks. Moneydance seems to do download silently and gives no indication when the download is complete. One major problem I have encountered so far, in just a few days of testing, is that I am unable merge duplicates or to change or assign a category to an unconfirmed downloaded transaction with a blue dot when I highlight it. The only option available is the [Confirm] [Press Ctrl <--I to confirm the selected transaction] black bar at the bottom of the screen. No "matching panel" appears at the right side of the screen, as indicated in your knowledge base article titled "Confirming Downloaded or Imported Transactions". Is this feature inhibited in this trial version?
Another question concerning downloading: is there a way to download an account's transactions by specifying a date range?
Thank you for your attention.

Hi Dan,
Sorry to hear about the issues you have encountered.
The missing feature should be available in the trial version. You can see on Page 38 of the User Guide how the confirmation window should be displayed on the side of your screen. Can you send me a screenshot of what you're seeing when you highlight an unconfirmed transaction? You can read instructions for taking a screenshot here. Can you also tell me what type of account you are using, as the matching panel is not supported in investment accounts?
If you are downloading your data via Direct Connect, then Moneydance will download any and all available data on your banks server. If you'd prefer to specify a date range, you can download your data from your banks website - generally they allow custom date range to be used, but each bank will vary. You can download into QFX, OFX or OFC files (aka Quicken or MS Money files), any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance.

Hi Jenny,
Thank you for your prompt response to my inquiry. My apology for such a late acknowledgement.
I have an investment/brokerage account that allows checking writing. One of my main needs is the ability to assign a payee and an expense category (ies) using a split category assignment. Can I do this in a check or online payment transaction in my brokerage account, after it has been downloaded in Moneydance? I was evaluating another personal finance software and it does not have the capability of split category assignment.
Thank you for your attention.

Hello Dan,
Is this transaction appearing in your investment account register, or a different account? Regardless, you should be able to double click on the transaction after it has been downloaded and change the category, including making a split transaction. Let me know if you have trouble with this, and try to explain where you are running into problems in detail.

Hi Ethan,
Thank you for following up with me on this issue. Sorry for taking so long to acknowledge your email because I was out of state. I have now learned how to do split transactions quite successfully. I have been able to do download in my brokerage accounts with E*TRADE Financial, but am unable to find E*TRADE Bank in your financial institution dropdown list. Can Moneydance add this bank to the list? I just talked to an E*TRADE customer service representative and he told me that Moneydance is not listed in their support platform and that I have to work with Moneydance to resolve this issue.
Thank you for your attention.

Unfortunately, E*Trade Bank doesn't support direct OFX connections, which Moneydance requires in order to talk directly to a bank. The best way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download them from your bank's web site. You can download into QFX, QIF, OFX or OFC files (sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files), any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance. You can also open your bank's download page directly (after entering the appropriate address in the Account->Edit Account menu) by going to the menu bar and selecting Online->Open Account Website.

Hello Ian,
Thank you for your prompt response. The same issue seems to apply to Bank of America as well. In Quicken 2013, the connection method for these 2 banks is Express Web Connect. Will Moneydance be able to provide this type of connection in the future, besides the OFX direct connections?
I’ve been testing Moneydance trial version for the past month, making category assignment as well as correcting payee/description fields/columns, etc… to downloaded transactions. What constitute a manually entered transaction? I now have 30 entries left before being required to purchase the full version. Will I be able to retain my current test file when I upgrade to the full paid version? And will I have to do an upgrade download?
Thanks for your prompt attention.

Hello Dan,
Yes, for some reason Bank of America also decided to drop their support for direct connections late last year. We of course have no control over which services banks offer to their customers.
We unfortunately can't simply start supporting what Quicken calls web connect, as this is a propitiatory protocol owned and maintained by Intuit. It involves creating automated scripts to log into your bank's website with your password and go through the process of downloading and importing a compatible file (roughly the process you would do manually). Every time a bank changes something in their website, this process would need to be updated. While we continue to think of ways we can implement this, it is currently beyond the means of a relatively small company like ours, so you shouldn't expect to see this anytime soon.
Any time you enter a new transaction with the new transaction button, or you modify an existing one, that counts towards the 100 transaction limit for the trial. Confirming downloaded transactions and changing their categories in that process does not count to that total.
When you purchase a license key from http://infinitekind.com/downloads, all you will have to do is copy and paste the license key into the field at Help -> Register. This will not affect your data in any way, and as long as you are already using Moneydance 2015, you do not have to download an update.
