I'm a fellow user.
That is no problem, all my transactions are entered manually
I would suggest you look at some of the articles in the Knowledge Base to get a start, then come back with any questions you may have.

I'm new, I would like a support person to walk me through setting up investments. it does not seem intuitive. Links above don't help.

Hi Ronald
Below are the basic steps to add Securities, Add a Investment Account and purchase securities.
Example to fill in the New Security window for the security Apply Inc
Security ID = AAPL
Security Name = Apply Inc
Ticker Symbol = AAPL
Value Suffix = Shares
Don’t change the other boxes they are optional. Click OK. Add additional securities using ‘+’ then X to close windows.
See https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/investment-accounts/adding-se...
Repeat for each security to be added to the Investment Account.
Any issues post your question with as much detail as you can and if relevant the step number above you have a problem with.
You can use the extension Quote Loader to update Security prices.
Quote Loader can be found under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION
For information on the features of this extension and how to use see post 200 at

Thanks. Is there a way to add shares without “buying” & pulling $s from another acct. Eg if a vanguard fund appreciates # of shares?

Hi Ron
Moneydance is based on accounting principles so as far as I know there is no way to buy share at zero cost. The best you can do is use a share price of 0.001
Its not a issue I have encountered so maybe others can suggest a better solution.
Hope this helps

With say initial holdings you can set an initial balance in the account - through the Account information box then your first transaction could be a buy of how many shares you have at an average cost.
But as Derek has said being based on accounting principles Money/shares cannot just appear out of thin air. Yes with Quicken they can but Quicken does not have an accounting base.
