Is there anything specifically we could help you with before you uninstall? I know we have many people who have moved to Moneydance from MS Money, some of which post on these forums daily.

If you are set on your decision, you can delete the program file, and also the data files. If you're not sure where your data files are located, they're probably in the default file location: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/file-locations-and-changes/de...

I the two programs parallel for a bit, making entries to both. Came time to do the monthly reconcile of my checking and savings accounts and the first thing I noticed was that there was a zero starting balance. I found the place where you could enter date and starting balance… so say my current balance was $10,000.00 and I entered a starting balance of $9,000.00… when I entered the starting balance my current balance became $19,000.00. No… the balance should not have changed, I was simply telling the program what the balance was after the previous months reconciliation,

And so on… Ignoring that I tried to balance the account transaction by transaction (something I do easily in Money). Again… not very intuitive which records had already clear in Moneydance and which ones were outstanding. Apparently when I set a reconciliation date after the initial migration Moneydance automatically cleared any transaction prior to that date when, in fact some were cleared and some were not.

As much as I wanted to like and use Moneydance I found it pretty convoluted to do a simple reconciliation (or account balancing as Money calls it) and I was thoroughly confused as to the meaning of the transaction/clear/reconciled flag on each record…. Apparently this field has many values, none of which were very clear to me. I Money the flag indicates whether the record was reconciled or not.

Mark Horvathtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/507471722022-03-24T05:25:45Z2022-03-24T05:25:45ZUninstall Moneydance

I'm a fellow user.
In MD, the flag also indicates whether the record was reconciled or not.
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/register-and-transactions/rec...

The Opening Balance is nothing to do with reconciliation, it represents a value that an account might have had historically before transactions were brought to MD.
If your account was already balanced, there was no need to modify your historic account opening balance.

As for the reconciliation opening balance, this is a derived value and is not stored anywhere (other than as the sum of its parts). Nor is it necessary to enter it. It will "take care of itself" as you proceed and reconcile successfully. It may have just been indicating that nothing was unreconciled at that point?

You may find you just need to learn a slightly varied mindset to appreciate the similarities (and differences) between MD and whatever you've been accustomed to. The knowledgebase is a good starting point.

tgilbert666tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/507471722022-03-24T05:37:33Z2022-03-24T05:37:33ZUninstall Moneydance

Thanks for the info. I updated my Money software to the sunset version and continue to run it on my Mac in Bootcamp windows. I may, at some point, download MD again and give it another shot using the advice you provided. Thanks for reaching out.

Mark Horvath
