Here is my take on your questions.

No it is not possible to hide any fields in the register, the best you can do is make their width small.

Every transaction either has to have a category or a transfer account in the category field, as Moneydance is based on accounting principles is is necessary for each transaction to have two sides and this is the way it is achieved. If you wish you could have a category like "Not applicable" and make this the default for the account.

It is not possible to turn auto fill off.

It is not possible to change the order of fields in the register.

My difficulty with autofill is that a previously split entry autofills for the next entry and I have to go in to individually delete splits. Is there an easy way to delete all splits without having to open the splits window?

In order to take advantage of entering the total amount of a transaction that I want to split so that the split window will automatically calculate the remainder for the next split, you have to enter the amount first. That means I have to “back up” to get to the category column in order to enter my splits. Is there a key combination that would allow me to pull up the split window while I’m in the amount column?

If you say enter the amount before the description it will override the auto split entries

When entering a transaction in register the key sequence L (Windows/Linux) or L (Mac) opens the split window.
