a lot of investments. I am really struggling to transfer the data
to Moneydance. Is there anyone who I can get to come and sit down
with me to explain what I have to do. I have successfully moved
data for individual accounts across (although the reconciliation
cleared payments seem to have dropped out which is a nuisance with
some accounts going back to 1997), but each time I move a new
account across some figures in the existing accounts change. I'm
obviously doing something wrong, but I have no idea what it is. I
am on the verge of giving up. I am happy to pay someone who could
come and show me where I am going wrong.</p>
<p>I am in Cheltenham in UK. Is there anywhere that I can get some
face to face help?</p></div>Marcus Steeltag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/402109042016-06-28T12:12:30Z2016-06-28T12:12:30ZMoving data from Quicken on Windows to Moneydance on Mac.<div><p>Hi Marcus,</p>
<p>I'm afraid that we don't offer phone support, but I'd be more
than happy to provide assistance via this method on the support
forum.</p>
<p>When importing your data, if the QIF file format is available to
you when exporting from Quicken, you should follow <a href="http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-data-from-banks-and-other-programs/importing-data-from-quicken-in-qif-format">
these steps</a>. In particular make sure you specify to Import into
a <em>new account</em> rather than an existing account. And you set
the source to "From another program".<br>
It is highly recommended to export all Quicken data into a single
QIF file, as doing so makes the import process much smoother.
Please use the option in Quicken to export "all accounts" if
available. The one exception to this is if you have accounts in
more than one currency - if thats the case, then you can follow
<a href="http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-data-from-banks-and-other-programs/how-can-i-transfer-my-data-from-quicken-into-moneydance">
these steps</a> to import multiple QIF files.</p>
<p>Most customers are able to import their data without any issues.
That being said, the QIF file format was never really intended for
transferring all data between personal finance software and as such
it may contain inherent ambiguities that will need to be manually
corrected post import. How much manual correcting needs to be done
is hard to predict. I'm afraid that typically investment accounts
fair worse that regular accounts in this matter.</p>
<p>If you can provide details of the specific issues you've
encountered regarding your data (a few examples of how transactions
are appearing, and how they <em>should be</em> appearing) then we
can work to get this data imported correctly for you.</p>

<p>Thank you for that and I will see how it goes. As I mentioned, I
am in UK and I’m sure you know that Quicken exited UK quite a
few years ago and so the version I am using is from 2004, will this
affect my ability to export data to Moneydance?</p>

<p>You shouldn't have any issues exporting your data from older
versions of Quicken, provided you're able to export in QIF format.
I'd recommend following the steps in my <a href="http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/switching-from-another-personal-finance-program/2385-moving-data-from-quicken-on-windows-to-moneydance-on-mac#comment_40211079">

encounter any problems, and may also wish to refer to <a href="http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-data-from-banks-and-other-programs/possible-problems-after-qif-import-from-quicken">

import and how to resolve.</p>

your help. Two last detailed questions. I have three unwanted
files, which are from past failed attempts to transfer data to
Moneydance; how do I delete them as I can’t immediately see
how to do that? Secondly is there a user manual that I can access,
the help menu seems to take me to a general OSX help function
rather than Moneydance help?</p>

<p>Your data is stored separately from the Moneydance software so
it can't be easily moved or deleted. The data set is a
<em>'yourfilename'.moneydance</em> file/folder. You can follow the
steps in <a href="http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/moneydance-2015/how-to-delete-an-unwanted-data-set">
this article</a> to delete any unwanted data sets. If you're having
trouble locating the data, you can try searching your system for
'.moneydance' which should locate the files.</p>
<p>You can find the full Moneydance User Guide <a href="http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/user-guides/moneydance-2015-user-guide">
here</a> - the first few chapters detail getting started and
setting up your accounts, and the later chapters detail the full
features and functions available. You may also wish to refer to the
<a href="http://help.infinitekind.com/kb">Knowledge Base
articles</a>, specifically the 'Getting Started' guides <a href="http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/getting-started-2">here</a>.</p>

<p>Thank you for that useful info, and I have followed the
instructions about deleting unwanted files.</p>
<p>Sorry, but I have another small question. When I update share
prices they come through in pence rather than pounds, whereas
Moneydance is expecting pounds; is there a way round this?</p>
<p>Marcus.</p></div>Marcus Steeltag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/402109042016-07-06T14:56:16Z2016-07-06T14:56:16ZMoving data from Quicken on Windows to Moneydance on Mac.<div><p>Hi Marcus,</p>
<p>Are you using the Quotes and Exchange rate extension? If so, you
can enter the extension window where you'll see a list of your
securities. You should see a column titled 'Stock Exchange' which
is likely set to default. Select this and choose either London
Exchange (GBP) or London Exchange (Pence) from the list.</p>
<p>If this doesn't help can you provide some more details of the
issue you're encountering.</p>

<p>I am using the Tools-Quotes & Exchange Rates command in
Moneydance. I purchased Moneydance from the Mac App Store and the
user instructions say that there is no need to install the Quotes
and Exchange Rates extension; Have I got that wrong?</p>
<p>My problem is that when I download stock prices the prices come
through in pence rather than pounds; Monedance doesn’t know
that and thins that the price is in pounds. I attach a screen shot
which shows what I mean (although for some reason the download
seems to have come up with the wrong price).</p>
<p>As you can see the normal price for Associated British Foods is
around £30 (currently £27.32, whereas the download
shows 2095.1089, which is in pence but Moneydance thinks it is in
pounds so it is valuing the stock at 100 times its true value. Is
there a way that I can either download the prices in pounds rather
than pence or tell Moneydande to divide the downloaded prices by
100?</p>
<p>I hope you can follow all this,<br>
Marcus.<br>
PS I am very pleased with Moneydance, this is a relatively minor
problem!</p></div>Marcus Steel
