Multiple users for one file?
I'm interested in switching to Quicken for Mac Online to another software that allows for multiple users for one file. It doesn't look like MoneyDance supports this. Does it? The goal is for us to have two logins to access and enter/edit the same financial records.
Thank you,

Hi Jenn,
You can share data among multiple computers/mobile devices, using the Moneydance sync engine and methodology, but there would only be one login per datafile.

If you mean "two logins" which means one user logs in then a different user logs in (i.e. it has nothing to do with the moneydance file itself, but with the login attached to a user), then the syncing method mentioned by TonyRI will work for that, there will be two copies of the datafile(financial records), but they will update each other though the syncing engine method.
It's usually done with separate computers (or devices, you can have quite a few), for example, my spouse updates the MD file on her computer, and I update the file on my computer, and they pass the synchronization data to each other - in this case one can update the file at the same time safely.

Sorry if i misunderstood. I understood her to mean 2 separate logins (i.e. separate passwords for one protected file) to share the same accounts (datafile). Example: If I have one Moneydance file that I want to open called "Personal Finances" and it is password protected, I can't log in to that file with 2 different passwords. You can definitely share protected files on as many devices as you want by using MD sync option and one "Password/Login"..

Hi Jenn
I don’t think its clear what you want to do, so here’s two scenarios.
The first multiple users want to work on a Data Set on more than one computer. Either at different times or simultaneously. On each of two or more computers you want each computer when opening the Data Set to have its own passwords. The Moneydance Sync engine will allow you to do this.
Second scenario. You have one computer and want multiple users to be able to open the same Data Set but using different passwords. Moneydance can’t do this.
You can also sync to mobile devices such as phones, each with their own passwords.
Hope this helps.

Third scenario: You have multiple users one computer, and you wish to share the dataset, you set up sync the exact same was as with two computers, but one user has password xyzzy (to login) another user has plugh (to login). With sync setup, they each get a copy of the dataset, which is synced via dropbox. They each have their own dropbox and moneydance location.
As derek said, it isn't clear what you are trying to accomplish...
does moneydance support multiple users for one datafile? Absolutely.
Two logins implies that you want to login TO THE DATAFILE with multiple passwords. That is not supported, nor necessary.
If you mean logins to the system, that's a different concept, and scenarios have been given.

Hi Jenn
If its scenario 3 your looking for then dtd is correct. If you don’t want to use the cloud server Dropbox as the sync method you could use the Moneydance sync method Shared Folder. Create a folder on your hard drive called say Moneydance Sync and use that.
Hope this helps
