There is an ability to filter by TAGS, and it even seems its possible to add "!" to exclude certain tags, but there is NO filtering control in reports by category, and I don't want to add tags for each category as its super time-consuming, plus it makes no sense as the category is already there.

Are you planning to add a filter by category, and when?

Thanks
Andrej

    Hi Andrej,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Have you tried filtering "By Individual"?

    I'm a fellow Moneydance customer

You are showing the Income and Expense Graph, not report.

The graph does not have the granularity you seem to be looking for. I believe the report does.

How do we add feature requests?

Support can either log a suggestion based on this thread or you can create a new topic in the Suggestions forum and they can pick it up from their.

    @ Andrej

As you requested, I've filed a ticket in our ticketing system with your suggestion, so the developers will be looking into it.

For the time being, you could use the 'Income and Expense' report, or the 'Income and Expense, Detailed' report.
Reports are accessible via Tools --> Graphs and Reports, or in the left side bar (below your accounts).

When viewing the report settings, you can choose the accounts to include and you can specify the date range. The date range can be set as longer than just 12 months.

At the bottom of the report settings window, you'll likely see 'All Income' and 'All Expense'. Choose the button to the right of this - Show: By Individual.
This will display each of your individual categories and you can choose which to include/exclude before generating the report to view your data.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

    just a user,

Not sure if you are interested in more advanced search capability, but if you are familiar with "Regular Expression" you can provide search parameters that will enable you to find almost anything. If I have a search need MD does not support in it's canned reports, I simply use the Find and Replace Extension and Regular Expression in the Free Text field and mark what I find with a special Tag. Then I can run the MD reports using that Tag and get what I need.
Regular expressions can be a bit cryptic to say the least. For instance if you want to search for a single word you would enter =\bword\b in the Find and Replace Free Text field. The search options are almost endless using Regular Expression.,
Here is a Regular Expression resource to show how much control and how cryptic the syntax can be.
