<p>I apologize for the delay in getting back to you; somehow your
message slipped by us.</p>
<p>The rollover system doesn't really take into account what you
describe, but what you propose is close to what I would suggest.
Another option would be to start your budget with a fake previous
month with this initial amount (for example, if you're starting in
August, put this extra $250 in the July month that you are not
using, and roll that over). Your budget report for that first fake
month would not be useful of course, but you could just remember to
ignore that.</p>

answered<br>
questions for those who were paying customers, and yet in my case,
the<br>
answer to this question was to determine if I would purchase
MoneyDance.<br>
So, thanks. It confirms what I was attempting to do and tomorrow
starts a<br>
new month so now I can buy the program and move forward.</p></div>robert parkstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/405661432016-09-01T22:35:17Z2016-09-01T22:35:18Zcategories<div><p>OK, but this begs the question - How do I "put money into a
category" other than through the budget category allocation
process?</p></div>Bobbytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/405661432016-09-01T22:53:28Z2016-09-01T22:53:28Zcategories<div><p>Hmm, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "put money into a
category." Can you try rephrasing that, or explain what you mean in
more detail?</p>
<p>I didn't realize you hadn't purchased the program yet. In that
case, I encourage you to download our free trial version from
<a href="http://infinitekind.com/downloads">http://infinitekind.com/downloads</a>
and experiment with the program before you decide if you would like
to purchase it. The demo version is fully functional and allows you
to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not
limited, so you'll be able to fully test things like importing from
other programs and connections with your bank. If you decide to
purchase the program at a later date you can keep all your data,
the license key simply unlocks the ability to manually enter more
transactions.</p>
<p>In case you haven't found it yet, our full user guide can be
downloaded from <a href="http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/user-guides">http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/user-guides</a></p>

would be<br>
easier to verbally explain it if you want to call me on my cell
phone,<br>
205-612-9969.<br>
But I will try.<br>
First, I did buy the program, yesterday, based on your first
answer. And I<br>
had been using the trial version all the month of August. And I
have<br>
downloaded and read your user guide, some parts of it several
times. No<br>
where do I find an explanation of how to start using MD with a
balance in a<br>
category from past budgeting. I can't start from zero in categories
like<br>
taxes where I have been accumulating money each month so that when
my<br>
quarterly taxes are due, I have the money to pay. I need to be able
to<br>
start budgeting a monthly amount, but added to that is the
amount<br>
accumulated in the past for a number of categories.<br>
So, I used MD in a limited way in August. But then when I tried to
budget<br>
for September, I could not figure out how to get my category
balances to<br>
roll over and at the same time to budget a different amount for
Sept. This<br>
may be the flaw in the way I tried to get around starting from
zero, as<br>
mentioned in my first message.<br>
So, you suggested, "Another option would be to start your budget
with a<br>
fake previous month with this initial amount (for example, if
you're<br>
starting in August, put this extra $250 in the July month that you
are not<br>
using, and roll that over). Your budget report for that first fake
month<br>
would not be useful of course, but you could just remember to
ignore that."<br>
So, you say above, "put this extra $250 in the July month..."<br>
So, how do I do that without creating a budget amount of $250 for
July?<br>
For, if I start with the fake month, July, and budget $250 for a
category,<br>
then when I move to August, the program doesn't let me carry that
amount<br>
over while budgeting the realistic amount for that category. It is
sort of<br>
a catch-22.<br>
Or so it seems. Maybe I just don't understand.<br>
Thanks for your assistance. I do want to make this work.<br>
