I have switched to a new computer and need to install and then restore all the data from my old computer to my new computer. Where do I find the backup file and how do I restore/reinstall it?

Thank you in advance for the help,
-Matt-

    Hi Matt,

You didn't mention what version of Moneydance that you are using.
If you're using the current version, you can d/l it here:
    http://infinitekind.com/download-moneydance-personal-finance-software

If you're using a prior version, you can d/l it here:
    http://infinitekind.com/previous-versions-of-moneydance

You can use your existing license key to register the new installation.

There is no need to restore from a backup. Simply copy the data file from the old machine and transfer it to the new one.

    Version 14.5 (980)

Where is the "data file" located?

How do I export the data file from my old computer and then import the data file to my new computer?

What format do I export in? QIF, Tab delimited etc. ? I am going from one iMac to another iMac.

    Hi msiler_99,

There is no need to export anything. Simply make a copy of the data file and transfer it to the new machine. You can use a flash drive or burn it to a CD / DVD.

The easiest way to locate the data file is from within Moneydance.
    Open Moneydance.
From the menu bar, go to Help > Show Documents Folder.
A file browser will open to the default location for Moneydance data files.
You should see your data file there in the following format
    filename.moneydance
Where filename is the name that you gave to the data file.

    At this point, close Moneydance.
    Make a copy of filename.moneydance.

Transfer filename.moneydance to the new computer.

FYI, you do not have to put the data file back into the same location on the new machine. You can put it in a more convenient location. e.g. your Documents folder. By doing so you're more likely to be covered by your OS'es backup program.
