Hi Debbie,
You will need to export your data from Quicken before it can be imported into Moneydance. I believe Quicken files are QDF files which are Quicken data files that can only be read and used by Intuit products. Unfortunately, a backup file from Quicken will not import.
Quicken 2016 has a slightly more involved migration procedure than some other versions of Quicken as it unable to export QIF files. You can see the steps to create a qif file from your data in this article. You can then follow the steps in this article to import your QIF file.
I hope this information is useful, please let me know if you have any questions or require further assistance importing your data.
