Calendar

Does moneydance have a calendar view which gives balances in the future based on predicted income and expenses in the same way that Quicken does? I see you have a calendar view on your screen shots of the app on your webpage but the dates are empty so that would not serve my purpose.

  1. Hi Andrew,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Moneydance doesn’t offer a forward‑looking calendar that automatically shows projected balances based on future income and expenses like Quicken does. The calendar you see in the screenshots is only for reminders. In other words it won’t calculate or display running balances for upcoming dates.

However, you can achieve similar forecasting in Moneydance by using scheduled reminders and choosing to post them into your register. Once posted, those future transactions appear directly in your account register and in reports, allowing you to see your projected balance on any date. It’s not shown on the calendar itself, but the forecasting is still possible through the register and reports.

Using Moneydance you may follow the steps below for setting up Foresight budgeting using transaction reminders:

    1) Create Transaction Reminders

Foresight uses your configured transaction reminders to figure out your future spending and to review your past spending.

Transaction reminders are similar to budget items, only more specific in that they specify an account and have more flexible scheduling possibilities.
Transaction reminders can also be entered automatically into the account register at the right time.

To really get the most out of Foresight, you should create transaction reminders for everything you expect to be coming in, going out or moving between accounts.

Everything. Even if its a one-off transaction. Even if it varies a little in frequency or amount. The closer your transaction reminders represent the reality of your transactions the more accurate Foresight’s predictions will be.

    2) Generate a Forecast

With your transaction reminders set up, it’s time to see how much money you’ll have in the future. In Moneydance, select the **Tools -> Foresight Forecast**menu. The first time you open it you should see it generate a forecast for all your bank accounts and credit cards. You can adjust the settings to suit.

    • Review Your Reminders Against Past Spending

This part is really important. Your forecast is only reliable if your reminders are in line with your actual spending. If you’re new to Moneydance you won’t have much transaction history to track but keep an eye on it over time to make sure your forecast is trustworthy.

    • Set the Summary Page Widgets

Both the Forecaster and the Reminder Review have corresponding widgets that you can add to the Moneydance summary page. Great for seeing at a glance if you’re on track.

To add the summary page widgets, go to Moneydance menu and click File ->Preferences>Summary Page->OK - finally restart Moneydance.

Most importantly you can download the trial version of Moneydance from our website on this page.

The trial version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions while imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test downloading data from your bank, and importing data from other personal finance software.

If you decide to purchase the program at a later date you can keep all data you have entered during the trial period.

We offer a 90 day money back guarantee, so you'll have plenty of time to test the program.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.
