Importing categories

I have a .csv file of transactions from another system that has ceased to exist. I have managed to import this into ManeyDance using Import Textfile.

I have two questions
1) Can I import categories - my .csv file includes categories that I'd like to keep if possible.
Or do I have to ignore that field and re categorise?
If I do that is there any automation for this import (there are about 6000 transactions).

2) My .csv file has memo and comments. I can see from the Import Textfile there is reference to memo. However, I do not see where these end up? Are they used? Can they be?

    Hi Ray,

Try using the 'Account' designation to import your Categories.

It has been my experience that the 'Memo' field does import as expected.

I should mention that there is a free, third-party CSV Importer for Moneydance. It is more robust than the Text Importer.

You can download mdcsvimporter2015-v20.zip directly from the developers website. (this version is ONLY suitable for MD 2015 and above)

There is a 'How to use it' document towards the bottom of the webpage.
    https://github.com/stant/mdcsvimporter2015/releases

If you need help with setting it up, let me know and I'll try to lend a hand.
