With the free trial am I able to import my files from Quicken, or do I have to purchase Moneydance in order to import?

I tried to import a file from Quicken online by changing the file extension to QIF, and it seemed to import the file but no information came through.

You cannot rename any file to QIF and import it, renaming a file does not change the file contents to the appropriate format.
What you have to do is open your Quicken file in Quicken and use Quicken to export the transaction data to QIF format.
The knowledge base has a number of papers on the process that should help you:

Hi Kathleen,
As Des has explained, you'll first need to export your Quicken data as a QIF file. You can the follow these steps to import the QIF file into Moneydance.
Please let me know if you encounter any issues during the import process. You may also wish to refer to this article that details the most common issues after a QIF file import, and how to resolve.
