The MD program starts up and is active in Task Manager, but is not on the screen

Originally this pgm installed and started up in the usual way, but I had problems importing my data from Quicken. I think that I got that sorted (date format problems) but then it seemed to load the new .QIF data on top of the earlier attempt, even though I told it to import into a NEW FILE.

I then decided to start again, so I shut down, uninstalled the program, restarted the computer, reinstalled MD and started it from the newly-installed pgm file. From Windows 10 Task Manager I could see that MD had loaded and was resident as an active file but it is not on the monitor or on the task bar. I have done this reinstall twice without success. The task manager shows 761.2 MB of RAM in use for MD but it is not visible on screen.

    Update:
After a number of retries to uninstall and reinstall MD, I used CCleaner after the uninstall to remove unnecessary files on the drives, and I cleaned the registry for loose remnants. Then I downloaded Moneydance_windows_amd64.exe again and reinstalled Moneydance.exe.

As before, the program loads and stays resident in RAM but is not otherwise visible or accessible.

If I install an earlier version will I be able to upgrade easily after you have debugged the 2017 version? Which version should I try?

The Microsoft solution of uninstall/reinstall will not impact Moneydance data files or key configuration files so it is not surprising it has had little impact.

The first question I have is have you had a second monitor connected to the system while using Moneydance? If so what can happen is that Moneydance was on the second Monitor, after you disconnect the monitor moneydance will still open in the virtual screen space and hence if off screen.

Using the key sequence ALT SPACEBAR then pressing the M key will enable you to use the arrow keys to slowly drag the window onto the visible screen.

If this is not the case then I would navigate to the ",moneydance" directory that is located in your home directory and rename the file config.dic then restart Moneydance it should come up as if it is a new install.

    * I always use two monitors, I don't shut them off. I did use task view to confirm that MD was not hiding behind any other view. But even if it was behind something I would have seen it on the Task Bar at the bottom.
** I have looked in the MD directory and all of the subs - there is no config.dic file. I reloaded the program and there are no config.dic files.
*** I attach a screen capture showing the contents of the MD directory and also the contents of Task Manager under the Processes tab.

    - btw, on my 'puter ALT_SPACEBAR gives nothing but ALT_TAB gives the Task View.

I did make a slight error, the filename is config.dict, but I am not talking about the .moneydance directory in Programs but the .moneydance directory that is in your home/login directory which on later Windows version is under \users\yourusername This file contains things like user preferences which are stored on a user by user basis.

Thank you dwg. I have successfully imported my QIF file and have started to edit and reconcile the accounts.

One major problem that I have encountered is trying to change the base currency from US$ to CAD$. My screen is now frozen solid with the "Edit Currencies/Exchange Rat..." window which will not close or accept any input. Unfortunately I have not saved my changes yet as things were going well. All of my accounts are in CAD except one US investment fund. I specified CAD when I imported but there are of default reports that show the line items in CAD and the totals in US. How can I close this window to save my work?
