When Quicken closed down I purchased BankTree with the promise of free upgrades. They now want to charge me £30 to upgrade to the latest version. A new computer means that I have been locked out of the old version. Grrrr.

Thinking of investing in Moneydance instead. Anyone know if I can import the data from Banktree (.dat) into Moneydance?

I am not support staff, just a user.

If you can’t open Banktree and export your accounts in the qif file format then I think the answer is no to migrating your data to moneydance or any other software. I would think dat files can only be read by Banktree.

If you can open Banktree you need to use the FILE – EXPORT feature to export in the qif file format. From what I can remember you can only export one account at a time from Banktree. Moneydance have not published an article on the transferring from Banktree to moneydance but the article on transferring from MS Money should be helpful as in Money you can only export one account at a time. See Knowledge base article “Importing data from Microsoft Money”. see http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-data-from-banks-and-other...
When you transfer your first account it should have the correct date, Description (payee), Category, Payment/Deposit and Balance. You may have to enter the opening account balance. It will automatically set up all the accounts that are transferred to/from in the account you have just imported. They will be hidden in the right side bar list but can be unhidden by clicking on the + at the bottom. The reason they are hidden is that there balances are wrong as you haven’t imported there data yet. As you do so these accounts should sort themselves out. Transferring one account takes about 2 to 3 minutes.

You can test things out for yourself. Download 2017 from https://infinitekind.com/download-moneydance-personal-finance-software It is the full working version with the only limit being a maximum of 100 manually entered transactions. Imported files from other financial programs and your bank have not limit on imports. If you decided to purchase you are sent a key by email that unlocks the 100 manual transaction limit.

    Hope this helps

    Derek,

Many thanks. My new computer supplier has managed to unlock my old account so I'm OK for now, but not at all impressed with BankTree. I'm off on holiday tomorrow but (now I can get at it) I will look to export the data to Moneydance when I get back.

    Martin
