Hi,
Can Moneydance import file created and used by Microsoft Money?

    Hi Dragan,

Take a look at this Moneydance KB article:
    http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-data-from-other-programs/...

As someone who's gone through this, it is doable, it's not trivial and expect to do some after-import cleanup.

I continue to use MS Money in parallel with Moneydance. There are some clever people who have created some free programs for MS Money. One that downloads OFX data from financial institutions. (similar to what Moneydance uses). The other downloads stock quotes. Each one imports directly into MS Money. If you're interested in these apps, let me know and I'll post the links to them. They are a little geeky but they both work well.

Hi Kevin - since Chase just changed their download options to exclude Money type files, when I download qif's from them it downloads 2 years worth of transactions, instead of just the new ones.
I've tried following the instructions on Money Dance to export/import but it's always a mess in MoneyDance no matter what I do. If you have tools to augment MS Money, that would be awesome! And I don't care how geeky, I can do it.

That's awesome - but I'd have to pay $9.95/mo to get OFX access from Chase. That's not quite worth it to me.

Kevin N., you are exceptional person willing to share all this tricks, tips and advises!
Thank you for 'Microsoft Money Plus Sunset Deluxe' link. It looks like no purchase nor registration is needed and it looks like newer version of MS Money I had.
I still have to think about your very first reply (Moneydance KB article) and see will that work for me. I use MS Money since 2006 and that is where I am the most comfortable. Do not care about downloading transactions from different banks, do not care about stock values, etc. I need to keep track of my income and expenses entering them manually.
    Thank again for amazing support!

    Hi ckraimer,

I'm not a Chase banking client but from what I've read on these forums, the $9.95/mo fee is only for business accounts.

I am a Chase VISA client and there is no monthly fee to use direct-connect for this account.

Thanks for the tip Kevin - since you seem familiar with the technical aspects of Money - let me ask you this. Why all of a sudden are file downloads (qif) from Chase causing 2 years of new records needing to be approved in Money instead of just adding the records that I hadn't imported before? Do you know what I'm saying? Just to be clear -
The old Chase site offered an MS Money download which was an OFX file that when imported only showed the records which I previously had not imported. But on the new Chase site they only offer QIF for MS Money. When I import that it doesn't know which account to go to - I have to select it manually - and then it imports 2 years (exactly) of new records so I have to approve hundreds of them instead of just the few new ones.

    Hi ckraimer,

The way that I understand it is that OFX and QFX files are designed for the express purpose of transferring financial data. A property of these file formats is that they each contain a unique identifiers for each transaction that Moneydance uses to prevent transaction duplication.

The QIF format, on the other hand was never meant as a means of transferring financial data. They were designed by Quicken as a troubleshooting tool. Hence, they do not include a unique identifier thus Moneydance can not prevent txn duplication when using QIF imports.

Again, I can not speak to the Chase Banking web site but the Chase VISA credit card site offers the QFX format for manual downloads. They call them 'Quicken Web Connect'.

If Chase Banking provides them, you should try using the QFX files going forward.

    OR...

Set up Online Banking through Moneydance and import the data via direct-connect.

I replied to this to tell you that your info had helped save Microsoft Money from missing the cut for me yet again. I've been using it for over 20 years and thought this problem spelled the end - but now that qfx can be imported the same as ofx, and I found a website that shows how to make qfx import automatically on double-click just like ofx - I've lost nothing! thanks Kevin - you're awesome. (I think me including the link to the website that shows the registry changes for the qfx auto import is why my first reply never made it to the light of day)
