Hello my name is Petra,

I currently have Quicken home and business on my computer which I use only to keep the books for a small preschool at my church.
I do want to add a software for my personal finance, and because I want to keep them totally separate I would like to use a different software on the same computer. Will this program run with Quicken on the computer as well?

    Hi Petra,

Yes, Moneydance will run on your computer even if you already have Quicken installed.

If you haven't already, I encourage you to download our free trial version and experiment with the program before you decide if you would like to purchase it. The demo version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test connections with your bank. If you decide to purchase the program at a later date you can keep all your data, the license key simply unlocks the ability to manually enter more transactions. You can download the trial version of Moneydance from this page.

For more information on how to get the most out of your trial period, check out our blog post on the subject.

When you're getting started you'll want to create some accounts, expense categories and then enter transactions.

To create, edit, or delete an account go to Tools->Accounts. To create, edit, or delete categories go to Tools->Categories.

Once you have created an account or category, you will probably want to add them to your left hand sidebar. This can be done by clicking on the plus symbol at the bottom left hand corner of the screen and selecting the account you created on the list.

To begin entering a transaction click the new transaction button, or hit Cmd+N.

Have you had a chance to look through the Moneydance User's Guide? If you haven't already, then I highly recommend checking it out. You can find our user's guide on this page.

Creating accounts and entering transactions are covered in the Moneydance User's Guide on pages 5-6, and pages 18-25.

I also recommend checking out our Knowledge Base. There you will be able to find many helpful articles about the various aspects of using Moneydance.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance!
