Hi Bruce,
You can opt to not use a master password to access your data. However, if you use online banking, you will not be able to store those usernames and passwords in the data file without using a master password.
Using the master password allows storage of online banking user names and passwords so that you don't have to enter them each time you import data from those institutions. You only need to enter the master password when opening the data file.
The one caveat is that the master password can not be retrieved if it is forgotten so be forewarned.
