Luckily I had time
to do a Time Machine backup and the funds to buy a new iMac.
Moneydance is now on my new machine, and I got it registered fine,
but I can't figure out how to import my old data. Your help is much
appreciated. Tata - Will

Will Perrytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/384005352015-11-06T19:40:02Z2015-11-06T19:40:02ZOld Computer Died - How to Import Backed-up Files

Hi Will,

You can restore your Moneydance data from Time Machine with the
following steps:

1) Start Moneydance, create a new data set if you start at the
Welcome screen.
2) Select the Help->Show Documents Folder menu, which will
display the data folder in the Finder
3) Enter Time Machine and select the date for which you'd like to
restore your data and click the Restore button

That will restore your Moneydance data folder (or a specific
data set, if you've selected one) to the state it was in at the
time the backup was made.

working, but, FYI, your suggestion involving Time Machine
wasn’t possible. I had already done a TM backup of my new
iMac, and TM wouldn’t go back to my older Mini backups on the
same external drive. What did work was easy - On my external drive,
just scrolled down thru my most recent Mini backup, and found the
JPMC.moneydance file. It opened in Moneydance and my data was
there. Ejecting that drive meant the data went away as well, but it
saved an archive in the Library of my new iMac. Now when I open
Moneydance, all my data appears to be there. Is my problem solved?
or have I stumbled onto some workaround that will cause me grief in
the future? Thanks! & Tata - Will

Will Perrytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/384005352015-11-06T21:01:40Z2015-11-06T21:01:40ZOld Computer Died - How to Import Backed-up Files

Hi Will,

It sounds like you've located the right file,
JPMC.moneydance is likely the dataset itself from your Mac
Mini. Provided you've got that JPMC.moneydance file in a
stable location it should be fine. I keep my dataset (encrypted) in
my Dropbox folder so that I can access it from all of my
computers, and so that I can just re-download my dataset in the
event of computer failure.

You can use these instructions to move your dataset to a
different location:

http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/moneydance-2014/how-to-move-your-da...

Remember that after you've moved your dataset, you'll need to
reopen it on your computer from the new location to ensure
that you're writing to the correct dataset. Click the File
menu -> Open -> Open Other and navigate to
the new location to open it!

Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me with any questions
about this process!
