Can this program import files from Quicken without any problems. I've had it with Quicken.

    Hi Peter,

If you haven't already, I encourage you to download our free trial version and experiment with the program. The demo version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test downloading data from your bank, and importing data from Quicken.

If you decide to purchase the program at a later date you can keep all your data, the license key simply unlocks the ability to manually enter more transactions. You can download the trial version of Moneydance from here.

You can find the steps for importing your data outlined in this article. You should export your data in the QIF file format and then import the QIF file into Moneydance.

Make sure you follow the steps accurately, in particular, make sure you specify to Import into a new account rather than an existing account. And you set the source to "From another program".

It is highly recommended to export all data into a single QIF file, as doing so makes the import process much smoother. Please use the option in Quicken to export "all accounts" if available.
The one exception to this is if you have accounts in more than one currency - if thats the case, then you can follow the steps at the bottom of the article linked above, to export each account individually, and then import multiple QIF files.

You can find the Moneydance knowledge base here which will be useful if you're using Moneydance for the first time. I'd be happy to provide guidance if you have any questions or need assistance getting setup.

    Hello Ian O,

I’ve had it with Quickens attitude towards it’s Customers. I am very interested in this software but am very apprehensive of moving my files from Quicken to Moneydance. I’ve used Quicken since it was a DOS program. Can I download my transactions from my Credit Union, I have TruWest for my Credit Union and want to be sure I can download my transactions from them. I guess I’m just a chicken to start messing with my checkbook. Any advice will be deeply appreciated.

    Sincerely

    Hello,

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that your credit union supports direct OFX connections, which Moneydance requires in order to talk directly to a financial institution. The full list of financial institutions that we know of that offer this service can be found at http://infinitekind.com/fi

The best way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download them from your credit union's web site. You can download into QFX, OFX, OFC, or QIF files (sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files), any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance. You can also open your bank's download page directly (after entering the appropriate address in the Account->Edit Account menu) by going to the menu bar and selecting Online->Open Account Website.

If your credit union begins to support direct OFX connections in the future, we will be happy to work with them.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

    Hello Ethan,

I think what I’m understanding is that I would have to complete my transactions oat TruWest and then import them into Moneydance? Is this a correct assumption?

I bloody have had it with Quicken not working with their customers. I have been following al the comments about them and a lot of people have had it myself included. It looks like the best approach is to find another bank that is on your list. I’m also going to contact TruWest and ask about a OFX connection in their future?

I appreciate all your help and understanding about me bothering you but this is a big decision for me to make. I had to change banks in 2015 when my wife passed away. What a hassle. But I am definitely considering it in the near future.

Thank you for your help and understanding

    Sincerely

    Hello Peter,

Most banks allow you to log into your accounts through their website. Almost all of them allow you to then download various file types containing your transactions. Any of the ones I have mentioned should work fine in Moneydance, and it's pretty rare for banks not to offer at least one of those formats. Sometimes banks will give you options for a date range to download, and others will just give you whatever recent information they feel like sending. Save that file to your hard drive, and then select it by going to File -> Import from the Moneydance menu bar. I'd give this a try and see how it works for you before switching banks, which I agree would be a big step.
