basic actions
I only want to use this as a check register, to print checks, and have a running balance. How do I enter deposits, write and print checks etc?

Hi Tom,
If you are a new user, I would highly recommend checking out the User Guide, which contains lots of information about getting started. And specifically page 43 which explains how to print checks and check printing preferences.
