I want to switch from Quicken, but I'm running into a lot of issues. Is there a guide for converting from Quicken?

I've imported my account and transaction information from Quicken. It brought everything over but now I'm trying to fix things.

I had to eliminate a lot of spurious transactions from my checking account. When I was done, the totals matched Quicken.

Then I set up an online account and downloaded from Schwab. Moneydance seems to want me to confirm (almost) every transaction going back to the time I opened the account! That's 4 years for this account -- and a huge number of transactions!

Then I started to look at one of my 11 investment accounts. When I downloaded from the brokerage, it also wants me to confirm all securities (it can't match the symbols?). That's 11 years worth of activity for this one account.

This morning, I started to look at an investment account from a brokerage that won't let transactions be pulled from their site. (I have a couple of credit cards that are like that too.) They will "download to quicken" or generate either a csv or xls file. I'm not sure how I'll have to handle those.

Quicken is a product that is getting worse with each new version and I would really like to stop using it. But I'm now questioning whether Moneydance will work for me. Can you help?

Thanks,
David

I agree Quicken is getting bad and I want to go to this program. I am confused with the instructions. I would want to just add these brokerage with stock and mutual funds. I can't get started.

    Hi David,

You can find a guide to importing from Quicken here? There are some errors that can happen in the importing process that are prevented by following the instructions on that page.

Here are a list of possible errors you might have and their solutions.

    Hi David,
I actually read both of those and, as I mentioned, have been dealing with the spurious transactions.

But there are a host of other problems. Having to confirm years worth of transactions is just crazy. The issues around updating pricing information is also a problem.

Thank you I will try again.  I do have the guide and I tried using it. Where do I start.  I will use your email instead of guide.  The guide may be good after getting everything in. Thank you Ray

    Hi David,

After creating your securities, you have to associate them with your investment account. You can do this by selecting your investment account on the left sidebar column, then clicking the Securities Detail button above the register area, then on the right side click the Add Security button to add the security. Once you've done that, you can click the Register button above the register area and add transactions with the security.

If I go to tools then securities they will show up. Go to securities details just the first security show up. Just do history on it only.
