You don’t state which version/build of Moneydance you are running. See under HELP – ABOUT MONEYDANCE. For example I am running 2017.5(1639). You also don’t state your operating system, but I suspect it is windows.
Before version 2017 you could place your data set in Dropbox and open the same data set on your two computers provided you opened only one at a time. Opening on both computer at the same time could lead to data corruption.
Assuming you have 2017 make sure both computers are running the latest build at https://infinitekind.com/download-moneydance-personal-finance-software
Make a backup using FILE – EXPORT BACKUP in case something goes wrong.
Moneydance 2017 has an inbuilt sync engine which allows you to work on the same data set on two computers at different or even at the same time. You have a number of options to do this the best and most flexible is called “Dropbox Folder”. Your data set should be located in the default location on your main computer. Your data set has is called yourdatasetname.moneydance it is a folder not a file and contains other folders and files. See under HELP – SHOW DOCUMENT FOLDER. This will open a file finder at the default location. If your data set is in Dropbox move your data set folder and all its contents to the default location. Leaving it in Dropbox may result in corruption of your data set. You can use Dropbox for a backup location in case my local hard drive fails. Moneydance has an automatic daily backup and a manual backup “Export Backup” which you can perform at any time.

To set up syncing take a look at http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/syncing-and-sharing-data
If you have any questions just post.
Note you can also sync to iOS and Android devices.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/435693582017-09-28T22:18:51Z2017-09-29T08:45:11Znew laptop

Did the job. Thanks so much!
