Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

In your screenshot displaying your desktop transactions I've noticed that you have selected the Uncleared filter. Can you select the All tab and compare your balance again?
Please note that the mobile app shows the transactions in each account, regardless of their cleared status.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Here is the screenshot with ‘All’ selected (same balance  but I realise you have to check that first)

catetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493957922021-09-20T14:45:14Z2021-09-20T14:45:14ZIncorrect balances on the Moneydance App

From that very screen, if you click on Balance, you should be able to view:

Balance - The total of all your transactions in an account register, regardless of date or cleared/uncleared status.

Cleared Balance - The total of all transactions you have marked as "cleared.”

Current Balance - The total of all your transactions up to and including today's date.

Do you still see a difference in the mobile app?
If so, are you able to take the following steps?

make a change on the desktop, say by entering a dummy transaction with yesterday's date;

wait about 30 seconds (or close Moneydance)

open Moneydance on the Phone, and give it a second or two to sync

Does the dummy transaction not appear?

If not, can you make sure you are opening the same data set on the desktop and the phone?

If the change doesn't come over, you can look at the folder on Dropbox under here: https://www.dropbox.com/home/.moneydancesync

There is one "opaquely" named subfolder for each data set you have synced with Moneydance.
Under the subfolder for your data set there's another subfolder called "v3" which will contain one file for every change you make on the desktop.

You can use that folder in Dropbox's web interface to see how long it takes any change to go from Moneydance on the desktop up to Dropbox. It's also useful for determining whether the changes in your desktop data set are going to the sync folder that you expect.

Also, on the desktop when you select the File->Syncing menu, does the window show that you are using the Dropbox Connection method or Dropbox Folder to sync?

The three balances on the desk top are:

Balance £-101.56

Cleared Balance £617.01

Current Balance £1234.92

The balance on the mobile is £848.44 – so doesn’t relate to ANY of the desktop balances. The desktop is right by the way – I’ve reconciled with the bank.

I created a dummy transaction and it came across right away, so this is the same data set. A dummy transaction created on the phone, also arrived in the desktop version. So syncing is working fine.

I’m using the Dropbox folder Sync method.

catetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493957922021-09-20T16:28:03Z2021-09-20T16:28:03ZIncorrect balances on the Moneydance App

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Cate

I would suggest you reset syncing.

On your computer In Moneydance do a FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – EXPORT BACKUP in case something goes wrong.

On phone in Moneydance under setting disconnect.

In Moneydance on your computer under FILES (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – SYNCING set SYNC METHOD to DON’T SYNC, then click OK.

In the Dropbox folder rename the “.moneydancsync” folder to “.moneydancesync_old” and move it to another location on your hard drive, not in the Dropbox folder. This is just a backup and can be deleted is the process works OK. Note on Mac “.moneydancesync” may be hidden, try in your Finder window, typing CMD-Shift-G and then pasting ~/Dropbox/.moneydancesync/ into the box to unhide. If you don’t have Dropbox client installed or can’t find “.moneydancesync” you will need to sign into you Dropbox account rename and move “.moneydancsync” from there.

On your computer under FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) - SYNCING, set your “Encryption Passphrase”, set “Sync Method” to Dropbox Folder, click OK.

Wait for Dropbox folder “.moneydancesync” and its contents to be created in your online account. This can take some time.

On your phone start the Moneydance App. On some devices you may need to click on the Dropbox symbol. You may be asked to sign in to your Dropbox account to allow Moneydance to access Dropbox if this is the first time the device has done this. The mobile app will search for your data set to sync. On the completion of the search, you should see your current data set listed. Select this to sync. You will then be asked to enter you Encryption Password, the passphrase you entered on your computer FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – SYNCING. After you have entered the password click BEGIN SYNCING. The initial sync can take a long time.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493957922021-09-21T17:36:53Z2021-09-21T17:36:53ZIncorrect balances on the Moneydance App

That has resolved the issue.
