You seem to be combining syncing and backup together, they are two very different processes for very different purposes.

It sounds like you may be trying to recover your desktop by using the syncing data. I say trying because it is not guaranteed to work as that is not its purpose, we would try to use this data if there are no other choices.

If you are in this situation the first step is to understand the system you had. As you have a mobile device we know you were using Dropbox but we would not know if you were using Dropbox Folder or Dropbox Connection. You would most likely use Dropbox Folder if you had the Dropbox client installed and if you did you should set this up first and wait for it to sync the data. If you did not have the client installed you must have been using Dropbox connection.

Once everything needed is set up follow the Knowledge Base article in setting up syncing, following the instructions for the "second system"

https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/syncing-and-sharing-data/sync...

Now in most cases this will work but as I said earlier it is not guaranteed to do so as that is not its purpose.

If you do have Moneydance backups the filename will have the file name extension of .moneydancearchive and you can use the restore menu command to create a new fresh data set from the backup data that you can then use to set up a new syncing relationship.

dwg
