ING Direct now supports DirectConnect
This discussion is public.
ING Direct uses an ofx server with DirectConnect so clients can
download the accounts.
I am trying to add that institution manually into MoneyDance and I receive a Java error.
I have attached the error I receive in MoneyDance.
Please let me know what can be done to correct this.
Thank you for your time.

Hi All,
We're still not sure what the issue is here, and it's been very hard to troubleshoot since some people are reporting success or partial success. Would any of you with accounts at ING be willing to check their website and see if there is anywhere where you can specify which accounts should have access using the code they give you?
Also, it might be useful for someone having this problem to call ING and tell them you're trying to connect and getting the 2000 error. They may have additional troubleshooting steps that we don't know about that will help solve the problem.

Jessica - I just tried again using today's (06122011) daily build.
Just to make sure, I recopied the code from the ING Web site. I then disabled each of my first 2 accounts (I've got 8 total). I then re-enterd the Access Code for each account and saved the file.
I then attempted the download process for my primary account - and it worked, as before.
I then tried my second account - and again it failed with the 2000 error.
I'll try to contact ING tomorrow, although this week is pretty busy for me.
Is there anything specific I should ask/say or not say?

Hello,
I have talked to INGDIRECT directly. I told them I was using Quciken so as not to confuse the issue. I have tried using my Acocunt number (their suggestion) and my saver id. Neither work. I have tried blocking and unblocking access and then creating a new access code. Not luck. I have asked if they can clobber my id so I can start over. Nope. I gave them the error 2000 and asked what they knew. Nothing. They looked in their help log and nothing. Just information on how to create the access code. The agent said they use MINT with no problem. I called 2x to get a different agent. One agent off hand said that they sometimes seem to have problems with Quicken users. (could that be MD users???)
Don't know what else to tell you. Just doesn't work.

Hmm. if they say they sometimes have problems with Quicken users, that would affect us as well. It seems like they know they're system is flaky, at least. Mint uses a different system then Quicken and Moneydance, which might explain why it works better.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure there's much we can do about this from our end. I will try to get in contact with a technical person at ING to see if I can find out any more information. It might be a good idea for anyone who's interested in calling them to try to get through to a technical person as well, instead of their first line support.
Sorry for the trouble. Maybe if we bug them enough they'll fix the issue.

I don't think from their statement that you can conclude that ING has true Quicken users with the problem. As an MD user, I tell them (as would most folks) that I am a Quicken user to avoid the "we don't support MD" confusion. So when they say they have Quicken users with the problem, it may be that they just have MD users with the problem who are telling them they are Quicken users. If they had as consistant a problem with Quicken as MD seems to have, they would have a much larger population of failures (given that the Quicken customer base is larger than MD) and I suspect they would be all over the problem if that were the case. My guess is that it is a MD problem.

I also tried doing all the same as Bob and Fred but with no positive results at all. I sent a help message to ING and did not specify which application I was using. They sent this back to me:
"When you access Quicken, try this out:
1. For all existing ING DIRECT Accounts, disable One Step Update. You can do this by opening the account list, clicking on the 'Edit Properties' button, and choosing the tab for online services.
2. Now setup the accounts again, but don't let Quicken determine the bank for you; add it in manually so you can be prompted for the login and password.
3. For the user ID, put in either the account number - or, if you set it up - the user account nickname.
4. For the password, put in the Access Code."
Does that help you at all? It doesn't help me.

Lisa et al - I just tried it again, even though those were the steps I had tried previously. No go.

I don't want to jinx myself but it is working for me in build 791. Maybe it has something to do with account types? I have checking and savings accounts there which seem to connect fine.

Depending upon how quickly they integrate their computer systems, OFX is going to be interesting now that Capital One is buying ING Direct...

Whoo! I was finally able to connect my three accounts at ING Direct (1 checking, 2 savings).
I generated a new Personal Finance Access Code and completely logged out of the session. I then setup a new MD connection using the "Customer Number" found on the upper right of the "My Info" tab in ING. Previously, my account numbers nor my Saver ID worked.
Hopefully, things keep working!

After some more digging through the XML, it looks like the 2000 error is related to the transaction date range in the XML request. Specifically, it appears the OFX call is requesting any available transactions, whereas ING Direct appears to support only specific date range requests (such as the transactions from the past 30 days).
Is it possible for MoneyDance to specify a date range for the transactions, instead of attempting to simply get all available?
I'm not familiar with any external software that would let me manually construct and edit XML calls to really test this theory.

While it's not currently possible to ask for a specific date range form within Moneydance, we're actually in the process of implementing that to fix a bug with a different bank. Once it's implemented, I'll update the ING connection so that it only asks for a specific date range. Maybe we can kill two birds with one stone.

This comment was split into a new discussion: ING Direct OFX question
Hi Jessica and any other support people,
I'm a Java Developer who owns Moneydance and was considering extension development. First, I want to understand the OFX web service calls. While playing around with a test Java program, I'm able to pull back my bank account Info with ACCTINFORQ in my request but I get a 2000 error for BANKMSGSRQV1 calls...
Is that supported in ING in a different way?
Here's part of my XML request ...
Thanks
Scott

Any updates yet?
I am getting the same errors as described above. I have re-set the accounts a few times just to be sure.
I just bought Moneydance and am not impressed with how clunky the direct connect is. I can't use it for my two ING accounts. Nor can I use it for my ING institutional plan service accounts (which are my 401(a) and Deferred compensation accounts from my state agency). Since I couldn't try out the downloading aspect before my purchase, I feel particularly annoyed.
I have found the whole program to be inferior to Quicken. I was a 10-year Quicken user and REALLY miss things like autoreconcile, one-step update, and simply being able to download from all my accounts.

We haven't yet implemented a working fix for this issue, as the fix is turning out to be tricky to implement without breaking other connections. However, there is a work around to the problem. If you do one file import from ING, future automatic downloads should work as expected. To do a file import, just download an OFX or QFX file from ING and import it into your Moneydance account.
We do support connections to ING Institutional Services as well. If you are having trouble with that connection, I may be able to help you resolve the issue. Coudl you start a new discussion and describe what problem you are having, including any error messages you are getting?
Also, just to clear this up for others who might read this, our trial download only limits manually entered transactions, not downloads from your bank. You should be able to fully test out transaction downloads before purchasing Moneydance.

Thanks, Jessica, the workaround now seems to allow the ING Direct accounts to download. And thanks for the clarification about the transaction limit. I realize it doesn't help me but it's good clarification--I assumed when the downloads weren't working for me that it was because of the limit, not because of a configuration issue.
I have to say, frustrated though I am by some things about Moneydance your customer service and response time is beyond compare. I am going to start a new thread r/e Institutional Plan Services.
Thanks!

Thanks, I was able to set up my Ing Direct checking account online using the work-around of downloading one OFX file and importing that first.
I guess there isn't much chance of getting Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ set up for online downloading? I do it all by hand now (and for the past year or two.)

Hi Dave,
Tokyo Mitsubishi does not support direct connections, so we won't be able to add support for them to Moneydance. You'll have to keep downloading by hand unfortunately.

This is what worked for me as I was having a devil of a time with this also. Then I stumbled upon the "online access code".
In your ING account, under My Info go to the Access code tab. Enable this feature and copy the access code.
When setting up your online connection use your customer number (I never have created a SaverID) for the UserID and the Access Code (copied from ING) as your password.
Once I did that, I was able to sync my ING Savings account. I am not sure how much of a different it makes, but previous to this, I was doing the OFX import method.
Hope this helops others out there.
