Can't set up Online Banking
This discussion is public.
Trying to set up Online Banking, but program is telling me it is an invalid id/password. However, I'm using the same sign on id/pw to sign on to the bank website. Is the TRIAL blocking me from setting up Online Banking/Bill Pay?

Can someone please help me make the connection for activating online banking and online bill pay? Have followed instructions within the knowledge base and none was successful.

Depends on the bank. Some do allow the same userid/password, but many have different ways to work.
First of all, they have to support direct connect. Have you looked up if your bank supports that in the knowledge base?
Then, some banks, like Chase, require you to contact them and ask them to allow Quicken (always say Quicken) to access your accounts. Then the userid/password works.
Other banks, like USAA, have a specific area to allow Quicken to access the accounts, and the userid/password is totally different than your normal website login.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the thoughts, dtd. Direct Connect has been utilized through Quicken since 1985 when I first started using it. However, did try the knowledge base as previously mentioned and noticed when filling out the routing number and account number there is a window for “Customer ID”. Haven’t any idea, and the bank doesn’t either, other than the user id used to sign in on their website. Tried SS# and drivers license #, neither worked. Hoping someone can help and I realize the holiday starts today, but will just have to wait and see.

if you've been using this with Quicken Direct connect, do you use the same id/password as your web site? If so, it should already be enabled, and should work in Moneydance (as they use the same criteria - again, as long as it is direct connect instead of web connect... Quicken has some proprietary connection methods (that are not very private)), but I'll accept that you use direct connect to connect to BBVA USA with Quicken.

And you are correct! But it’s telling me id/password isn’t valid, but I can sign in, no problems, on banks website. Have been playing w/it practically all day, but no joy. Dunno ☹

There is a specific Knowledge Base article on BBVA:

OK guys, thought I was on the right trail, but at the end window popped up w/a 800# telling me to contact them. After much back and forth, it appears BBVA is having all kinds of trouble w/Microsoft Edge browser. Yep, that's the one I'm using and have the latest version installed. Changed over to IE and had same identical problem. Also, figured out my customer id is my email addy and after inputting it, window came up that said Moneydance had enough info to proceed. Then, nothing happened! Really like Moneydance, but if it's going to take another browser for it to work (and it hasn't so far) gonna have to give some serious thought about it.

Direct connect does not use a browser it is a client server system where Moneydance is the client and the bank has a server Moneydance communicates with.
However you often have to use a browser to access the institution's website to set up access, as there is often an authorisation process. That is what the article I referred to outlines.
What the form of username/password is someone with experience of this organisation may have to tell you if the bank cannot do so (and they should be able to). Some organisations use the same combination as for Internet banking, others use completely separate username/password, yet others come up with a different scheme, membership numbers, email addresses etc.

The latest: No joy using IE. But whether using IE or Edge, same thing is happening, it appears to be connecting, BUT, instead of downloading in the background, it opens up the browser and then goes to the banks website sign on screen AND opens multiple windows (8 to 10) all the same! This is so weird. Ever seen this before?

Good news and bad news! Got ONLINE BILL PAY set up is the good news. Bad news is that there were 128 transactions downloaded, many are dupes. Will take forever to get it straighten out to balance w/banks figures. Going to restore backup, then just go w/a 30 day download. Maybe that will help. However, if there is something that you can suggest to help out, will be so thankful.

If this is an auto Direct Connection download, then you can use the Toolbox extension. Advanced Mode, Online Banking Tools Menu, Edit last txn download date and set that to yesterday... It's initially set to zero (=all)..
This may or may not work depending on the bank...
Worth a try..

Thanks Stu, but I've already restored backup and it worked just beautifully! My question now: Looked, but couldn't find if there's a way to just download the last # or last Date for the download. Is there such a thing? And on another note, discovered yesterday that the "Customer ID" window is the EMAIL ADDRESS. After inserting it, window pops up and tells me there is enough information to proceed. Nothing happened....

I'm sorry, but I didn't understand your last reply..
My post 14 above tells you how to adjust the last download date...?
Also, you said: 'After inserting it, window pops up and tells me there is enough information to proceed. Nothing happened....' - so did it work or not?

Have program downloading now. The Online Banking and Online Bill Pay items are still dimmed out, but can download transactions. Will give it some more attention tomorrow as I'm bushed right now. Thanks to all for the help!

What is the fix for this? (See Screenshot)

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)
on 04 Jul, 2021 04:15 PM
There’s nothing to fix as such. It’s a warning that you appear to be opening backup files, using that dataset, backing up and then opening that backup etc. If this is intentional, fine. If this is in error, then you need to change how you are opening the MD dataset?
If you’ve finished doing the restores/opens then best to rename your dataset (with MD closed) to eliminate all the dates from the names.

Confused Stuart, I'm opening MD by clicking on the exe icon on the desktop. Are you telling me to rename the latest working data file, w/md closed, and delete the old backups?
Also, under the ONLINE tab, the tabs ONLINE BILL PAYMENT and SEND ONLINE PAYMENT are both dimmed out. Is this normal? Can make dl's, but what about sending a payment? Thank you for putting up w/a 83 year old man!

Opening MD by clicking on the .EXE is the correct procedure. Some people click the actual dataset file. So I’m guessing you’ve done a couple of restores? If everything looks ok then I would do nothing for now and ignore the warning.
As for the bill pay, sorry I cannot help. I do not use that feature.

OK, and yes, I did click on a restored file in the beginning, then when going to use the Tool Box ext., per your instructions, noticed this warning. Scared me too! :-)
Maybe someone who uses the BILL PAY will come along and give me some advice about the 2nd paragraph of my #21 post.

GM! Have purchased the program last week and been learning how to operate it. However, there is one problem that is re-occurring and that is: Program continually makes backups when closing even though I have it set to a max of 5 backups. What is the secret to keep it maintained at 5 instead of adding 1 every time program is closed?

I'm a fellow user.
There is no point in making 5 backups and never making another one. Your backups would become obsolete if this is how it worked.
What the software should be doing is making a backup each time the program closes and removing the oldest backup to keep the number around 5. In my experience this is what Moneydance does.

Thank you, but understand what you're saying. Automatically erasing the oldest backup when reaching the designated number inputted by the user is what I thought it should be doing. However, instead of deleting the oldest it just keeps adding each additional backup in a never ending circle. Only way to get rid of the oldest ones is to manually erase. How to make it do so automatically?

Please do this. Start MD. Take a screenshot of preferences/backup and post here. Close MD. Find and post your console log errlog.txt (keep MD closed) here.
