I work on a mac. I've purchased Moneydance and have been using it for a couple of accounts. Now, I'd like to switch what I have on Quicken over to Moneydance. Can I do this? How?

    Hello,

Following instructions in one of the article you sent, I was able to export my Quicken 2016 data from mac. I changed the .QMTF extension to .QIF Very satisfying, the Moneydance logo appeared.

Should I just import the QIF file to Moneydance? Will it set up all the accounts I had in Quicken?

After recent bad experiences with dealing with Quicken Cash Manager, I am eager to get off that software and on to something else.

I will follow the answers to Mary's post with keen interest.

    Hi Mary and Trevor,

To import your data from any other personal finance software, we'd recommend using the QIF file format.

As you've seen - if this format is unavailable, you should export a .QMTF file, and then amend this to the QIF format.
Trevor - the steps are detailed here if you need them.

Then you should follow the steps in this article to import the QIF file to Moneydance.

Make sure you follow the steps accurately, in particular, make sure you first specify to Import into a new account rather than an existing account. And you set the source to "From another program".

It is highly recommended to export all data into a single QIF file, as doing so makes the import process much smoother. Please use the option in Quicken to export "all accounts" if available.
The one exception to this is if you have accounts in more than one currency - if thats the case, then you can follow the steps at the bottom of the article linked above, to export each account individually, and then import multiple QIF files.

If you'd like to import your Quicken data without affecting the Moneydance data you currently have, you can navigate to File --> New. This will create a new, blank file. Any files you have created will be accessible via File --> Open, where the file name will be listed.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance importing your data.

Can you help me with two issues:

When imported financial data from Quicken to MoneyDance, the process went fine.

I need help in a couple of areas & am happy to be referred to existing documentation.

First, what I imported is clustered at the top of the sidebar and not with the other four accounts I had set up directly in moneydance. How can I get imported accounts to appear in the side bar?

Second, how can I filter registers across accounts by category?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction?

    Mary

I am not support staff, just a user.

Your first question – side bar. You can select what appears in the side bar by clicking on the “+” sign at the bottom of the side bar then click on ADVANCED” and use the selection windows. Not sure this is what you are looking for. Could you post a screen shot and explain how you wish to see the list in the side bar change? Perhaps you are trying to group accounts by there type?

Second question - Again, not sure what you are looking to do. There are a large number of reports you can run which have filters. Or if you are looking for all transactions that have the same category enter the category text in the search box (top right) whilst on the summary page. Or if it is all transaction of the same category with in an account, be in that account, when you do the search. If this is not what you are looking for explain further, with an example.

    Hope this helps.

    Derekkent23,

Yes, what you wrote is helpful. My first question is completely addressed as I now understand how to use to + sign to set up the side bar.

I see there are several reports and I’m still trying to master them for my purposes. When I use the Income and Expenses, Detailed, I can pretty much get what I want. But, is there’s no way to get just one designated category short of copying to clipboard?

Anyway, your comments were most helpful.

I am not support staff, just a user.

In the Income and Expenses Detailed report click Edit – None – and in the window below tick the category you wish to report on.

You can filter by Date – Source Account – etc

Click OK to run the report.

If you won’t to use the same report again click Memorize and enter a new name for the report.

    Hope this helps
