Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Usually you can find the relevant instruction for Moving Files in this article or the Knowledge Base.

However, for a normal functioning we recommend storing your files in the default location.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Here are two very good reasons I keep my data files on a different partition:

(1) Maybe a few times a year I need to revert my C: drive to how it was a few weeks or months ago. Perhaps Windows got corrupted or I have a problem with a new program I installed. For whatever reason, I can quickly restore a backup image of my C: drive (I use Image for Windows). To be clear, I am NOT referring to using a restore point. I mean restoring an image so the C: drive will be exactly as it was on the earlier date. That solves some problems, and, of course, if I installed or updated a program in the meantime, I will have to repeat that action. But all my Word and PDF documents, email, my Moneydance data, etc. will be safe and unchanged, because they are on another partition.

(2) I have applied whole disk encryption to my entire hard drive, but I have a different password for the data drive. This way, if I have to leave my computer at a repair shop, the technician can have access to my C: drive, which of course he/she needs, but not my personal data.

I realize the vast majority of users have everything on one partition, but I don't think I'm the only one who does this, and having an option to easily set another location for default datasets would be great for us.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll pass your feedback on to our developers for their consideration. In the meanwhile, manually moving your data file in the way you described is the only option, as described in our knowledge base: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/file-locations-and-changes/mo...
