Network Preferences

To access your Network preferences, choose File > Preferences > Network.
(On a Mac, choose Moneydance > Preferences > Network).

In this window, you can customize the network and online banking settings.

  • Automatically Download Transactions in Background
As soon as you open your data file, Moneydance will initiate transaction downloads for all Direct Connect and/or Moneydance+ enabled accounts.
Before this will work, you must set a Master Password via File > Passwords, and enable the option to "Store Online Passwords in File".

  • Automatically Merge Downloaded Transactions
This automatically merges and categorizes transactions downloaded or imported from your bank.
Merging transactions is detailed in this article.

  • Mark Transactions as Cleared When Confirmed
When enabled, transactions are marked as cleared when they are confirmed.
This only applies to transactions that have been downloaded or imported from your bank.
This does not amend transactions within Investment accounts.

  • Use Bank Dates for Merged Transactions
Once enabled, if the date on a manually entered transaction is different from the date of the transaction it is being merged with, the bank’s date replaces the manually entered date.
For example when a check is written on December 4 and cashed on December 8.
When this box is not checked, the manually entered date will remain after merging.

  • Ignore Transaction Types in Favor of Amount Signs
This setting was introduced in Moneydance 2019.3 to prevent amounts from being inverted when importing OFX files. Some financial institutions have re-interpreted the OFX specification which results in data being interpreted incorrectly by Moneydance and thus stored incorrectly.
For example, transactions with a credit amount are imported with a debit amount.

  • Auto-commit Reminders
This setting will not be visible unless the current file has syncing enabled.
It is specific to the currently open data file, and helps to avoid possible duplicated transactions.
Duplicates can occur if an auto-committing transaction reminder is recorded on two different computers before the changes can be synced between them.
By default, this option is enabled on the computer that created the data file, and disabled on the other systems. We recommend enabling this option only on one computer - whichever is the most used and most often connected to the Internet.

  • Use Proxy
This can be enabled if you use a Proxy to connect to the internet. Then complete the fields below with the relevant proxy settings - Host, Port etc.
If you think you need to use proxy settings, contact your network administrator.

  • Observe Online Payment Date Restrictions
If enabled, Moneydance will amend the date given to initiate a new payment (via online bill payment), and move it forward by the number of days your bank needs for processing.
If you initiate a payment for a date earlier than your bank says it can be processed, Moneydance will display an error message.

  • Only match downloaded transactions when they are at most X days apart
Once enabled, the program will only offer matches for merged transactions which have dates in the stated range. Increase the number to have more merge options, or decrease the number to reduce the merge options you're suggested.
When set to "Default", Moneydance will match older transactions within 90 days and future transactions within 14 days.
