iPhone App loses Memo field after sync
My iPhone Moneydance app erases the memo field during the sync. This only happens for entries that were logged using the iPhone app. Any idea why this is happening?
My desktop is running Moneydance 2010r3 (751) on Windows 7 64
bit.

It may be that you have an old version of the iPhone app. I recall this was a bug in one of the early releases that has since been fixed. Can you please uninstall the iPhone app and then reinstall it from the app store. This will get ou the latest version of the app. Also if you are not running the latest version of the net sync extension could you update to the latest version of that as well.

I uninstalled and reinstalled both the Network Sync and the iPhone App, but I am still having the problem. :( I actually uninstalled the iPhone app twice and rebooted the iPhone. I'm at Build 9 for the Network Synch.
Any other ideas?

Ugh! Now Moneydance is inserting 2 entries for every new iPhone entry!

Oh gosh, that is not good. It seems like either the new version of the app might not "see" that the transactions have already been sync'd, or that the sync was interrupted and things were redownloaded. Could you let me know what's up now, and if the double inserting is continuing?
Thanks for your help in diagnosing this sticky bug, and I do apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced.

The double inserting is no longer happening. It stopped happening after I reinstalled the Network Sync and/or the App.
But now I am still left with my original problem...the memo field gets erased after I sync.

Me too, I have the same problem with the memo field. I take the time to put in a memo on my iphone transactions then it's all lost when I sync.
Please fix,
Thanks

I have eactly same problem.. memo fields dissapear after sync.
For me, this field is very important, please fix this problem!!!!

The problem is still happening. In the meantime I use the description field to capture the memo info, and then split it after it syncs onto the desktop.

I was heavily relaying on your app and I just realized that I am having same problem.
All my Notes/comments are gone for all transactions for last 2-3 months.
Now I will not be able to recall those notes. This is a big disaster for me.
Isn't this shameful to have support for public app like moneydance that will be not able to fix this problem during several months.
It seems to me that this app is being developed by only couple of enthusiasts at their spare time on weekends.
It takes them toooooo long to develop even simple things like this.
Many features or errors takes them years to resolve.
I consider Developers of this app as being not serious enough to entrust .
Shame!

Hi all,
I've just tested this with Moneydance 2011 (790), build 11 of the Net Sync extension, and the most current version of the app, and have not been able to recreate the disappearing memo field issue. Could any of you let me know if you can recreate this issue with this setup, or even with build 11 of the extension (which was released a few weeks ago, and helped improve some syncing issues)? This will help us determine how to move forward. I do apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

It seems to be working, but only sporadically. I was excited to see the update, so I upgraded as soon as I saw it last week. The sync retained my memo on a purchase from last week, but it lost some of my memos from the weekend. I just entered a test transaction and it worked again. I'll let you know if I find a pattern.

Eh1160,
Yes, it would be very helpful to know if there is a pattern, please do let us know if you discover one. We'll also be turning our focus back to the app as we continue to move forward from the Moneydance 2011 release, so I'll be sure to point our developer at this thread. Thank you for your patience, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Problem definitely reproducible on latest build of everything (MD 791, sync ext. v11). I have a transaction which I keep setting the memo field on the iphone, sync, and memo lost on both sides (MD and iphone) after sync.

Well, memo field and check # field dissapear in iPhone app. Not exactly when sync. It dissapear after exits app.
If you record, exit and enter again in the app you will notice fields are empty

Re: Mauricio Tejeda's comment, I can confirm this is true. No sync is required to lose the memo field! This is a great find I hadn't realized before. Enter a new transaction with a memo, save it, exit the app, launch the app, memo gone!
I bet if this is fixed, the loss on sync will be fixed as well.
Please fix! :-)

Dear MD support,
I only started with MD last week and have exactly the same issue as stated previously!
EVERY memo entry made on my iPhone is not transmitted to MD and consequently deleted on my iPhone after syncing.
Since I'm still running a trial version I need to have this solved before buying the software. The flawless iPhone app integration is one of the major reasons for evaluating MD.
The fact that this issue is not being fixed for over 7 months by now, is not actually re-assuring....
I have the latest versions (791, netsync v11, app v1.4 (18.8.2010??) )
Please resolve this issue asap or I have to consider other products...
Many thanks in advance.
br
Matt

Using iPad 2 and MD v. 1.4, I'm reproducing the memo field loss on reopening. So there are no memos TO synch unless no closure has occurred. (So much for the problem I came in with.)
BTW, in a post above, Angie, you refer to reinstalling the app. Do you not filter updates through the App Store?

Any updates on this issue? Seems like a fairly straightforward bug--memo is not persisted in the iPhone app. Can the description of this issue be changed to accurately reflect the root cause?

Assuming this discussion has not been moved elsewhere ...
I finally got a chance to sit down with the offending memo field. If it is entered during the original transaction creation (using iPad here), it is indeed lost. But if you complete the transaction, save, then re-enter it to edit, the memo remain intact and synchs perfectly. It's a workaround, but it works.

Slight correction: if you re-enter to edit and THEN add the memo ...

Hi Sasha,
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, I've been working won this for a bit now, and I can't seem to reproduce this bug. The memo field always saves for me and always syncs to my laptop. I'm using version 1.4 of the app on an iPad and iPod Touch, and version 11 of the syncing extension.
There must be something that we're doing slightly differently to account for this problem, which is making it very hard for us to track down this bug. If you're willing, could you please send me a list of exact steps you take to reproduce this problem? Hopefully, I'll be able to use your steps and compare them to what I've been doing and hopefully get closer to figuring out the problem.

I'll be glad to, as soon as I can (today or tonight).

Jessica, assuming any repro case will do, here is as simple as I can make it:
1) launch MD iphone app
2) click '+' sign to enter a new transaction
3) enter an amount, click the description, pick a payee on the top of the list (category auto-fills from the payee)
4) click the '>' button to the right of the 'category' and enter a memo in the memo field
5) click 'save'
6) press the iphone home button to exit the app
7) re-enter the MD app
8) visit the transaction just entered (in whatever account you entered it) and the memo field is gone

iPad 2 iOS 4.3.3, MD version 1.4 (I installed the dual iPhone/iPad app ... Hadn't noticed until today that there's a distinct iPad version now on the App Store)
Note that Moneydance build 791 is not active on the Mac mini, so no inadvertent synching is possible.
Steps:
1) open Moneydance.
2) touch + key for new transaction.
3) verify "payment" selected
4) enter amount
5) choose source account from pic list (result is identical whether I choose the default source or another)
6) press "new transaction"
7) enter date from roll bar (result the same using today or prior date)
8) touch "description" and key in same ( result the same whether keyed in or chosen from resulting pick list)
9) touch "save" (choosing "new transaction" defaults back to original screen without retaining the entered description)
10 touch"category", choose destination account
11) touch right blue arrow, enter memo, touch "save"
12) close MD
13) reopen MD
14) touch transaction to enter edit mode
15) no visible memo
Repeating from previous post: if you enter edit mode before you close the app, the memo is retained.
Noticed that MD is not designed to hold an entry open when you double-click the home button for multi-tasking; that would be right, since no transaction has been saved, but it complicated the task. I had to start a new transaction from scratch when I toggled back to MD.

Hi All,
Thanks for that, I was finally able to reproduce this bug. I also found a workaround. The only difference between what I was doing and what icycle and Sasha were doing is that, instead of just tapping "save" after entering the memo, I was tapping "Done" on the keyboard and then tapping "save". For whatever reason, if you tap done and then save, the memo field is saved properly. If you just tap save, the memo disappears.
Thanks for helping us narrow down the problem. Could you all verify that this workaround (tapping done before save) indeed solves the problem? If it does, I'll file a bug ticket for this, so that we can fix this for the next release of the iOS app.

Thank you Jessica, the workaround appears to work for me, and I also confirmed the memo sync happens as expected.

Great! Thanks for the confirmation. I've filed a bug ticket for this, detailing the problem and the workaround. We should be able to have this fixed for the next release.
Thanks all for the troubleshooting help!

I found out a slightly different repeatable scenario where the memo field is erased. See attached video
30 Posted by icycle on Jul 03, 2011 @ 06:13 PM
That's the same case: you entered the memo then pressed 'save'.
