Hello... here we go again... every year, I try to archive my previous year's transactions. I tried it again just now, and they still show in the file. I clicked Archive, selected everything before 01/01/2012, selected remove from file (only cleared transactions), clicked OK, closed the program, restarted it, and they are still in the file!

What's the secret to archiving and removing old transactions?

    Hi,
Some of the recent versions of Moneydance did not archive correctly, but the latest release should do it.
Can you tell me what version you are running and we can proceed from there?
(Look under Moneydance -> About Moneydance or Help -> About Moneydance)

    Thanks.
    Sincerely,
    Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

    Hi,
Aside from a few small issues, this version more or less fixes archive: http://infinitekind.com/preview
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Jon… I'm a bit concerned about using BETA software on something as important as Moneydance. When are you going to release it?

    Regards,
    Rolf

    Hi Rolf,

The preview version that Jon linked to only has a few bug fixes over the version of Moenydance 2012 that you're using, which only affect a small portion of our users, so to simplify things we didn't release it as a new version of Moneydance 2012, but left it where it is as a preview release. There aren't any regressions, however, and it isn't going to be pushed as an update to Moneydance 2012. The bug you're seeing, along with a couple other rare ones, are the only changes to that release.

Hi Scott… download preview and installed it… shows (866)… did the archive and nothing happened… old transactions are still showing in program.

    What now?

    Regards,
    Rolf

    Hi Rolf,

You selected the "Remove archived transactions from current file" option, correct? Are your old transactions marked as cleared? Have you configured Moneydance to save the data set on exit, as opposed to saving automatically? If so, can you try pressing Ctrl + S (or Cmd + S on Mac OS X) to save your current data set and see if that empties out the transactions that you're expecting to see be removed?

Hi Scott… yes, I selected "Remove…", old transactions are marked as cleared… configured to save on exit… tried CMD + S, and nothing! (Where am I supposed to do the CMD+S? I did it while viewing the transactions…

    Regards,.

    Hi Rolf,

The archive function is working correctly for me in 866--is it not removing any transactions from your current data set? After archiving, does it close and re-open your data set?

Hi Scott… no, it is NOT removing any transactions dated before 12/31/2012 (I also tried 01/01/2013, same results); yes, it closes and reopens, but no change in dataset…

    Hi Rolf,

Can you try archiving again and then send us the output of your console log? This can be found by going to Help -> Console window in Moneydance, then clicking the "Copy to clipboard" button and pasting the output to us here.

    Hi Rolf,

According to your log, you have the "Only remove cleared transactions" option set when archiving--can you try unsetting that option and then see if archiving works for you?

Wheeeeeee! Works like a champ! I had that box checked because there were a few transactions from several years ago that I was afraid to delete for fear it would artificially increase the balance… but it didn't and archiving now works for me! Thank you for your time… I appreciate it!

    Rolf
