I have two Macs, an iMac and a MBP. Both Macs running Lion. My MD file is kept in my Dropbox folder.
When I open the MD file on the iMac it opens OK. When I try to run MD from the Mac Book Pro, it frequently will not start or if it does it will take more than one minute to open the MD file. I have made sure the MD file is not open on the other computer, MD has quit and Dropbox has finished synching file to MBP.

Very troubling when I travel not to be able to open MD file.

Suggestions please.

    My experience with Dropbox is it is not reliable enough to depend upon. I know one time the issue was a Dropbox "upgrade" needed. The others it may not have been Dropbox, but the connection.

    I do not use Dropbox. It is installed if I need it, but I do not use it.

    Thanks for your input. I do not believe it is a dropbox issue. I've been using it for almost 2 years with no problem.

    Even with a test file on MBP not in dropbox folder MD struggles to open, and frequently does not start. MBP 1 year old iMac 5 years old.

    I am fairly certain the problem you are experiencing is not related to dropbox. When you store a file in dropbox it is copied to your local machine. The loading time would be identical if the .md file were in your Documents folder. You could verify by copying the file into the Documents folder and loading it from there to see if the slow start up time is present there.

    We have occasionally see this slow startup problem occur and have never been able to pin down the exact cause. Some leads have indicated that it might be related to the net sync extension on some network configurations. Are you running the net sync extension?

    Ben:

    I do not know if I am running "net sync extension". How do I check for it?

    Thanks.

    Ben;

    i tried using MD after startup in "safe mode". MD starts up as expected, looking more like an extension issue. as you suggested.

    Hi Bill,

    You can see that extensions you have installed using the Extensions Manager, which you can access in Moneydance by choosing the Extensions->Manage Extensions menu option.

    Thanks. I misunderstood, I thought Ben was referring to Mac OS "extensions" not MD's. The net sync extension is installed on the iMac and MBP but only the MBP seems to have problems starting.

    I removed the net sync extension, and reinstalled it. Then ran extension to check for updates. Initial opening of MD looks right. Think you found fix for me.
