Changing category while viewing an item

When I view an item with split categories, the program changes one of the categories of the item. It does not warn me that it has changed anything. I can close the item (no alert asking me if I want it saved.) The next time I view that item, it has the incorrect category, which I did not assign to it.

How do I prevent this from happening?

    Hello,

    I'm unable to recreate this on my system. Can you clarify which version of Moneydance and which operating system you are using?

    Can you describe in more detail the steps you are taking that causes this issue? For example, when you open the split window, are you clicking on anything within it before closing it? If it's helpful, you can also attach screenshots to illustrate what's happening. If you're not sure how to take a screenshot, please see http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/

    Hi Ethan,

    Thank you for your prompt reply. I am using MacOS 10.14.6, and Moneydance
    2019.3 (1880).

    In trying to narrow down exactly when this is happening by screen shots, I
    was able to determine exactly what is happening. On a split entry, when I
    go back into it, and change the Memo field, and then Tab over to the
    Category field, the Category field changes! If I change multiple Memo
    fields within the same item, and then Tab to the Category field, all those
    Category fields are changed to the same arbitrary category.... not the one
    I initially chose.

    As you can see in the attached screenshot, I initially had this entry
    divided up between Auto:Principal and Auto:Interest. When I changed the
    Memo field, the categories got changed when I Tabbed over to the Category
    field.

    I do get the dialog box asking if I wish to save the changes. (I apologize
    for saying that I wasn't getting it.) I was expecting to get it, because I
    had made changes to the Memo field.... not realizing that the Categories
    were getting changed also.

    Hope this is sufficient for you to duplicate the situation.

    Hi Ethan,

    I am encountering this problem often. It happens every time I edit a split
    entry.

    I open the split. If I make a change in the Memo field and tab to the
    Category field, it changes the Category field. If I do not make a change
    and just tab to the Category field, the Category field does not change.

    On the enclosed attachments, the first shows the split as it was initially
    entered. All I have done here is open the split. The second attachment
    shows what happens after I have made a change to the memo field, and tabbed
    to the Category field. (It has changed the Category field.)

    If I just make the change to the Memo field, and don't tab, (just go down
    to another split item), sometimes the Category field changes and sometimes
    not.

    This is very irritating. I can not trust this software to maintain the
    data I have entered.

    Please advise.

    Hi Maddy,

    I did the upgrade, as you suggested. It still has not solved the problem.

    I can recreate this situation very consistently... everytime I edit an
    existing split entry. (see attached)

    Please advise.
