In an investment account, Portfolio View is showing the future cash balance and not the current situation, and the total is also the future value. In my particular case, it's including a transfer of cash into the account that's clearly and correctly shown in the register as not happening until four weeks from now. I nearly made a bad mistake.
The sidebar total and reports such as Balances, Net Worth and Portfolio are all correct so it may be only the investment account Portfolio View that does this.

The portfolio view for an investment account is as of the last transaction and not as of a certain date. If you want a portfolio view of an account for "today" set it up and memorize the portfolio report. That simple portfolio view has all transactions, past, future and present.

Yes, sth, that behaviour is exactly what I'm reporting. Portfolio View has many advantages over portfolio reports, as I'm sure you know. Including future transactions in it is unhelpful if you are aware it does that and problematic if you're not. Users will often be unaware that it includes future transactions - there's no indication in the view and no mention of it in the Knowledge Base. Even your description of values being "as of the last transaction" wouldn't be understood by many as including the future transactions; "last" usually means past.

added: It's actually more misleading than I first thought. On the right of the Portfolio View is a column headed Current Value. It's not the current value. It's the value after future transactions. There's no other indication in Portfolio View of whether it's current, future or past, and no specific date is indicated. All we've got is "Current Value".
