I have MoneyDance 2014.4 (947 and have just moved to a new MacBook, running MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3

MoneyDance has become really, really slow - will I have to upgrade, if so to which MoneyDance version?

@patricia - just a user, and I don't have the long "you need to do this" items that someone else will soon post, but, yes - Apple with new OS systems loves to break old software.

So, the fact your MD 2014.4(947) even works with Big Sur is amazing. Super slow is good in this case.

But yes, you'll have to upgrade to use the software effectively in Big Sur. As to how that happens, i defer to the folks with the details.

Yup. You need the very latest 2021.1

    I'm a fellow user.

Moneydance 2014 would have been supported up to the earlier versions of Sierra at best (10.12.2)

You will need to upgrade to 2021.1 for Big Sur support as has been indicated.

Before upgrading take a backup of you data and put it in a safe place. I would not anticipate any problems in the normal course but better safe than sorry.

Moneydance is pretty good at updating older data to the latest format, and I have not encountered any problem with the latest versions in upgrading some quite old data files - older than yours.

When you install the new version of Moneydance, overwrite your existing version and then open it, the software is expected to update the data set when opening it, hence it will be slower to open at this time but I would then expect to see all of your data intact. You will need to register Moneydance with the new software key you received when you purchased the upgrade (which is at a 50% discount for directly purchased editions).

I've been using Money Dance 2021.1 and it since I upgraded it, it is very slow on adding new transactions or editing an old onde.

@Alexandre, this is sort of a thread highjack, but that usually indicates a problem with your MD data file. You don't mention your OS or other info which makes any diagnosis impossible. You can post your console error log file (directions below) or download Stuarts Toolbox extension which has all sorts of file repair tools.

    BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP! First.

    (Not IK Support) errlog.txt
    (Mac OS) Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt
Press the option key and use the "Go" menu in the finder to access the Library folder.
Or open a finder window, press Shift-Option-G and paste in this path
    ~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance (Windows) C:\Users(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt
