unit testing extensions?

I'm wondering if it's possible to unit test extension logic related to finding accounts and creating transactions?

I see AccountBook has fakeAccountBook() and initializeNewEmptyAccounts() methods which look promising in terms of creating a test harness, but so far I haven't been able to get them to work. Are there any examples you could share of creating a dummy AccountBook for a unit test?
