I just paid for the update (2021) for Moneydance. As I usually do, I backed up the existing Moneydance database to USB, I uninstalled the existing Moneydance, installed the new Moneydance and tried to register it by pasting in the key. I get the message of "If you have already purchased a license for Moneydance, please enter your registration code below. If you have not purchased a license, please do so by visiting the following URL with a web browser.". I tried to requesting my license be sent to me, as if it had been lost, but got the same message when I tried to license the registration code that was sent. What is going on?

just a user here - I think you may have confused the program via the uninstall; i.e. when you tried to apply the upgrade, there was no "older program" set of registration files there.
When I update (not upgrade) I don't do an uninstall/reinstall, and thus all the secret files probably stay in place.
That said, someone here will certainly be able to provide more advice that I can.

I'm a fellow user.
De-installation of Moneydance should make no difference, it should not touch user files and from a software perspective it should make no difference even if it did.
