can't edit wrong transfer account

I have transferred an investment account from Etrade to Fidelity, and found that in order to keep my transaction history and cost basis information intact, the only solution is to rename the etrade account , disable online banking with Etrade, and then re-enable with Fidelity. Since doing so, I have noted that whenever I write a check on this account, the transaction wrongly shows as being transferred from another one of my bank accounts and I am unable to edit the transaction to fix it. I am attaching a screen capture to show the new problem transactions from last month (with transfer from Catatrophe Savings Account), and some older check transactions which seem correct. The older transactions were from the Etrade account before I renamed and re-enabled the account with Fidelity. Something seems to have happened at that time, I am guessing. How to fix this?

What happens when you double click on the transaction to put it in edit mode? Are you not able to select a different account or category in the transfer field on the transaction.

If you are writing checks on an investment account you need to select an expense category in the transfer field on the transaction. Writing a check is a transfer from the investment account to and expense category.

The other older transactions that seem to show nothing in the transfer field most likely are transferring to an expense category that has an empty name.

I was able to correct the transaction by listing one of my expense categories under the transfer account field. I was under the impression that that field was for the investment or bank account that a transfer was being made to or from, as the purpose of the transaction normally is shown in the field immediately below, "fee category". Thanks for that explanation.
I still have one problem with this account since I renamed and transferred from Etrade. The default account for transactions persistently remains Catastrophe Savings Account, one of my bank accounts. I have another account listed under "default category" in account info settings but this does not change. Is there some way to fix this?

    Hi Joe,

If I'm understanding correctly, you have a default category set under an account (from Tools -> Accounts, "Edit", "Default Category:"), but the actual default category that shows up when you go to enter transactions is a different one, is that correct?

That's certainly strange. I would try changing the default category to something different and saving the settings (hit "Ok") again, then return and do the same back to your original preference for a default category (perhaps somehow there's a config file discrepancy that this might fix).

Please let us know if I've misunderstood your issue or if this hasn't fixed the problem.

Perhaps I need to explain better.  See the attached screenshot.  In this account normal buy, sell, dividend, etc transactions which are downloaded from Fidelity are properly allocated to the default category (Tools -> Accounts, "Edit", "Default Category:").  This category will show in the red box in the screenshot.  XFR transactions, however, such at checks, will always have Catastrophe Savings Account (one of my bank accounts) listed in the blue box.  The attached screenshot shows this, along with some older checks from 2009 when I did not have this problem.  This seems to have started since I transferred this investment account from Etrade to
Fidelity, and found that in order to keep my transaction history
and cost basis information intact, I  had to rename
the etrade account , disable online banking with Etrade, and then
re-enable with Fidelity.  The older transactions were from
the Etrade account before I renamed and re-enabled the account with
    Fidelity.

    Joe,

Ah, I think I see the problem here. When Xfr transactions are downloaded into an Investment type account the category will always default to the first bank account (in alphabetical order) in your file. It's not currently possible to set a default category in Investment accounts as it is in Bank accounts. We are working on improving the capabilities of Investment accounts to make things simpler for users who write checks from their investment accounts.

Sorry for the confusion, and if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask,
