Dear Sir or Madam,
i have used MoneyDance on my apple mac for many years and have navigated the upgrades, both to my apple powerbooks and OS system upgrades and i appear to be successfully sync'd between my new and old macbook Pro.
I now need to sync with MoneyDance running on windows 10, (i have bought a second licence, although maybe not needed as this is my personal/family accounts, however Moneydance has been very good value for me). both are running Moneydance version 2023.3 (5064) (latest)
my macs are synced using "shared folder" option.
i have my .moneydance file (the active one) on my user folder/Library/Containers/Moneydance/Data/Documents/(account name.moneydance)
i do have my .moneydanceArchive files in my Dropbox folder, but these are backups, not current use.
i have shared a folder within my dropbox with the Dropbox on the Windows10 called "account notes" and within that is "moneydance sync" which is the folder chosen in the File>Syncing>sync Method>Shared Folder within moneydance. This sync folder only has the folder (long funny name) and files written by MoneyDance app.
I have shared a dropbox folder with the windows 10 machine. which has shared access to "account notes" folder and within that is "moneydance sync".
i opened MoneyDance on the windows10,
chose the option "Create new account file"
then "Open Synced File", and chose "shared folder"
and chose the share folder, but Moneydance on the Windows10 could not find any Mondyedance files.
**
also tried copying the active myAccount.moneydance file onto the C drive on Windows>> could not open??
i will shortly try using the sync choice "dropbox connection"
its a frustrating puzzel > any ideas please?
thank you .
Douglas

    Hi Douglas,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

The steps for syncing with other computers are outlined in this article of the Knowledge Base about: "Syncing with Other Computers" here

In short, you should ensure that:

    • you computers are running the same version of Moneydance

    • your data file is stored in the default location on the primary computer

On the secondary computer, you should simply navigate to File –> New– >Open Synced File choose the same sync method and enter the same passphrase as the primary computer.

Lastly, enter a "dummy"" transaction on each device and allow a few seconds for them to sync. They should display exactly the same transactions.

    Dear Maddy,
Thank you for your prompt response, I have gone through the steps you outlined a couple of times, and the copy of Moneydance on the Windows. Computer says looking for files, and not finding any Moneydance files.
I think this is because I'm running a different dropbox account on the windows machine then I am on my two MacBook Pro laptops.
I initially tried to synchronise on shared folder because I do have a shared folder that appears both on my MacBook Pro inside my dropbox and is shared to appear inside the dropbox on the Windows 10 machine.
I look forward to your further help.
Thank you again warm regards, Douglas

On the secondary machine, use shared folders and manually point it to the actual Dropbox shared location

Douglas, you are correct, The two dropbox accounts are why they don't "see" each other. But you are going in the right direction - to share the folders and such. That way, MD can see the transaction files across two dropbox accounts (I do this myself with my and my spouse's computer)

I am not support staff, just a user.
    Hi Douglas

I would suggest using the Moneydance Sync method Dropbox Folder rather than Dropbox connection with a free Dropbox client installed on each computer when following this Moneydance article. https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/syncing-and-sharing-data/sync...

    Hope this helps.
