Sync has stopped working
Hi, my sync is only working one way, from MacBook to iPad. Not syncing from iPad to MacBook. I haven't changed any settings. Any suggestions?
Thanks
David

Hi David,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.
Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Moneydance --> About Moneydance
When you navigate to Moneydance->Syncing, which sync method do you have selected?
Please note:
With "Dropbox Connection" Moneydance uses the Dropbox API to talk to the Dropbox service directly. So, although you don't need to have Dropbox actually installed on your computer, you do need to be online when Moneydance is running in order for changes to be synced.
With "Dropbox Folder" Moneydance will just read and write files to your Dropbox folder on your computer, which means that you need to have Dropbox installed and running, but you don't need to be online in order for Moneydance to read and write the changes.
When you are syncing your data with a mobile device, or another system - you should NOT move your data file to a shared folder location, like Dropbox, for instance. The file should remain on your local system if your data is being synced or shared, as outlined here.
Where is you most up-to-date data, on your computer or on your phone?
Thank you

Hi Maddy,
On MacBook version 2022.2 (4060)
I'm using Dropbox Folder (have been doing for past 6 years or so, haven't made any changes). Just stopped syncing about a week ago.
I have Dropbox always running on my MacBook, never close it
Yes my MoneyDance file is in my Documents folder on this MacBook.
The most up to date data was on my iPad, which is why I realised it wasn't syncing to the MacBook. When nothing else worked I deleted the Moneydance app on my iPad and reinstalled it and set up the sync again, unfortunately that means I lost all the most recent data which was on the iPad. I've tried entering data again - the data that I enter onto the MacBoom syncs over to the iPad, but the data I enter on my iPad does not sync over to the MacBook.
Thanks
David

Please can you send us your Moneydance error logs? The logs should include information about what might be causing the problem.
They are saved on your computer as an errlog.txt file.
You can get to your error logs as follow:
1) navigate to Help->Console Window to show the console log in a window
or
2) in the Finder, press ⌘⇧G and then copy and paste
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support
into the field and press enter/return.At that point the finder will show an internal folder which contains the errlog.txt file.
Finally you can paste the full content to your next reply here.
Thank you

Firstly, we would recommend running this update:
Moneydance 2022.3 (4072) is now available to download from this page.
Secondly, please try following the steps below:
Open Moneydance on the computer. Choose File --> Syncing->Don't Sync and restart Moneydance.
The procedure below will create a brand new sync relationship and new sync data:
Launch Moneydance on you computer, take a manual backup (Moneydance->Export Backup) and save it to e.g. your desktop (just in case).
Navigate to File->Syncing and choose Dropbox Folder.
Click on Show Passphrase and take note of it. (You will need to enter the same later, on the mobile app)
Launch the mobile app and choose the same file as your computer.
Enter your Password to match the Passphrase on your computer.
Finally, enter a "dummy"" transaction on each device and allow a few seconds for them to sync. They should display exactly the same transactions.
If you encounter any problem a this point, you might need to perform the following:
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Syncing to Dropbox
Support Staff 9 Posted by Maddy on Apr 14, 2022 @ 12:43 PM
You might need to repeat these steps before proceeding to set up sync anew:
Starting from your phone, launch the Moneydance mobile app and select Disconnect.
Restart you phone!
Open Moneydance on the computer. Choose File --> Syncing->Don't Sync and restart Moneydance.

I have done that again and also cleared cache and data on the phone, I still get No Folders Found when the phone logs into Dropbox.

What happens if you install the Dropbox app on the phone? Can you see the files in there? It’s .moneydancesync (may be hidden).
13 Posted by tonycawton on Apr 14, 2022 @ 01:24 PM
Yes, they are there, I deleted them all and then did a fresh sync on the laptop, new files were created but the phone app doesn't see them when I sign in.
14 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on Apr 14, 2022 @ 01:29 PM
Delete the phone MD app. Reboot phone. Reinstall. Start again. Make sure you authenticate with the right Dropbox account.

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Sync has stopped working
Hi Maddy, sorry, I've tried all those steps below and it's still the same problem. Syncs fine from MacBook to iPad, but doesn't sync at all from iPad to MacBook.
On the iPad app, bottom left, it tells me "last sync Thu Apr 14 at 2.29pm"
Thanks
David

I have already done that and I only have one Dropbox account.
17 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on Apr 14, 2022 @ 01:45 PM
OK, I would start again from scratch. On the Mac, run Toolbox.. Hacker mode, hacker button. Select Force reset sync settings (this will wipe out sync, but it's not working anyway). When done restart MD.
Then turn Syncing back on.... wait.... restart MD.
Now try to set up phone again...
18 Posted by tonycawton on Apr 14, 2022 @ 01:53 PM
OK, done it all again. Still the same. I'm on Windows laptop not a mac if that makes a difference. What I don't understand is how it suddenly stopped. It was all working.
19 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on Apr 14, 2022 @ 01:57 PM
Aghhh. Are we talking to one person or two? David/Tony?
Tony. Please send your help/console output after syncing.
Then send a screenshot of your windows Dropbox/.moneydancesync folder and another screenshot of the same on your phone.
David, pls clarify what you’ve done and where you are at?
20 Posted by tonycawton on Apr 14, 2022 @ 02:10 PM
I have already sent you logs after sync, window and phone Dropbox are identical Phone Dropbox screens attached.
21 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on Apr 14, 2022 @ 02:23 PM
Pls send the windows screenshots too. Thx.
22 Posted by tonycawton on Apr 14, 2022 @ 02:27 PM
I do not have Dropbox installed on my laptop. I view it through a browser. As the browser and the phone are looking at the same site they will see the same thing.
23 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on Apr 14, 2022 @ 02:30 PM
Not necessarily. If the laptop authenticated as a different user then this could be the problem. I would install Dropbox on the laptop. Authenticate that. Then switch syncing method to Dropbox folders.
24 Posted by tonycawton on Apr 14, 2022 @ 02:34 PM
Like I have already said, I deleted the files and did a fresh sync, the files shown in the phone Dropbox app have the correct timestamp so cannot be a different user.

Two people.
I posted the original question, and then Tony added his comments, but I don't know him. He seems to have the same issue as me, albeit that I'm using Apple products and he's on Windows. I was replying to Maddy below

So. On the iPhone which of these screens do you see after you disconnect? Does
It say ‘connected as xxxx’ your user ID?
And. Do u have another phone/iPad you can try?
27 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on Apr 14, 2022 @ 02:55 PM
David. Have you tried the Force a reset/push of your dataset to Sync instructions above?
28 Posted by David Thornicro... on Apr 14, 2022 @ 03:00 PM
Stuart - no how do I do that? I can't see any instructions?
