This follows on from previous, closed, discussions:
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/problems/86674-jumbl...
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/problems/79744-displ...

I am on a Win 10 machine [edit: Pro OS], I9 processor, NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2070 card.
All components are updated with latest drivers etc.
Running latest version of Moneydance: 2024.1 (build 5118). I'm attempting to transition from the Q competitor.

After downloading transactions, then selecting a transaction with the intent to Confirm and/or merge it with a manually entered transaction, then moving the pointer to transaction confirmation panel, the panel redraws repeatedly and the re-draw function does not properly refresh and display the contents of the area. It becomes increasingly littered with artifacts from previous renderings - leaving the panel useless for completing the task.

From my experience (very limited) in Java programming, it seems that perhaps the code needs an explicit 'redraw' or 'paintComponent' command thrown in for good measure.

For now I'll:
* attempt to have the Confirm dialog use a popup (hopefully it's the the "Show Selection Details" configuration option).
* set the "Only match downloaded transaction when they are at most" value from the default to 5 days (thereby limiting the number of items in the panel). I'm not sure what the default is, but it seems to be a large value.

Best wishes,

Mark

I should note that I have changed the font to a fixed-width (Consolas), and adjusted the default size to +2. I know this may change the metrics, so if the solution is to change the display back to default values - so be it. Let me know.

    Follow-up:
Changing the panel to a pop up and limiting the number of days has made the dialog box usable. I'll switch the panel back to in-window to see what happens.

    Hi Mark,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Firstly, you may want to install the latest update.

A new update was released on 01 Aug 2024 .

Moneydance 2024.2 (5142) is available to download from this page.

For a full list of improvements in the preview version, please refer to this page.

We recommend overwriting or manually removing the older version.

Secondly, from within Moneydance, you could navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions and install the Toolbox (v.1065)

Launch the Toolbox and select Update Mode

Finally choose Menu: General Tools. Update Functions-> Reset Window Display Settings

    • select the option relevant to you from the dropdown menu

    Finally restart Moneydance!

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

    Hi Maddy,

    Thanks for your response.

I opened Moneydance, clicked Help | Check for Updates. A dialog popup
states: "Congratulations, you have the latest version of Moneydance!"

The download page you provided mentions that this is a Preview. My
understanding of Preview is that it is not a general, stable, release - but
rather an in-development, 'Beta' release. Is that true in this case? If so,
then no, I'll decline for now. I am using production-level releases of
    software on this workstation.

As for the Toolbox: Yes, I'd downloaded this a couple of weeks ago and used
a couple of tools to clean up some old accounts from my Quicken import. The
suggestion to Reset my Window Display Settings worries me. Can you tell me
what this will do? Does it affect only the MD application? Does it affect my
    Windows OS display settings?

Cheers, and looking forward to hearing from you,

    - Mark

Another follow up: I changed the configuration to put the Confirm panel back into the Main window, but left the Number of Days setting at 5. The display seems to work fine now. I suppose the reduced number of entries is helping in some way to stabilize the panel's content.

Just a note for future reference: I set the VM memory allocation ceiling to 3GB
    (per Maddy's suggestion https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/general-questions/10...): I set it to a multiple of 1024: "-Xmx3072m".

Thanks Maddy. I'll run it a few days or a week. If all works well, I'll consider this issue closed.

At this point it seems OK. Reducing the Number of Days setting for matching seems to have done the trick.
I am a little concerned about the number of 'Similar Payees' (?) filling the panel: when I have an Amazon transaction to confirm, there are a number of 'Similar' items in the list - mainly because I have several categories that these purchases get grouped into. Is there a way to configure Moneydance to NOT look for similar payees? Or to limit the number of time frame?

Maybe Moneydance/Settings/Network/bottom line (only match downloaded transactions...)?

On windows it might be preferences versus settings.

@dtd : Yes, I set this to 5. It reduced the number of suggested Merge candidates,¿but not the number of similar payees. So far the reduction seems to have helped the panel's redraw. Time will tell.

    Just now:
A credit card transaction was downloaded (a payee that's been charged monthly for over a year).
There was one Merge candidate and three Similar Payees. After mousing over the candidates and suggestions the panel-redraw stepped on itself and became jumbled. I toggled between the list and detail views and the panel redrew correctly. So, limiting the number of Merge candidates didn't completely overcome the issue, but seems to have helped.
As for Similar Payees: there were three - presumably from the last three months. They all had the same category. Why is this? I could understand showing the same payee with different categories that have been used, but why repeat the same Payee with the same category?
Anyway, I understand all programs have their own personalities and quirks. I'm still adjusting to Moneydance's.

Sometimes the drop-lists or popup menus get a little weird. But, otherwise I'm OK with how it's working. I'll close the issue.
    Thanks,
    Mark
