To restore the data from this archive please select a name for the new data set.
I just finished adding MD to my laptop to use in addition to my desktop version. I used Synced File and all seemed to be well. I did a bit of maintenance and closed out of the program.
At some point (can't remember if I was closing or re-opening MD) I received a pop-up message saying
To restore the data from this archive please select a name for the new data set. Please also choose whether it should be treated as a new data set or continue syncing with the original's data and devices
Keep Sync settings from original file (I SELECTED THIS)
If selected your restored file will continue syncing as the original file including with any other devices. If not selected, you'll need to re-link any other devices that should with with
When I went to re-open on my laptop, it wanted to open the re-named data archive so I selected the older original file name that was just a few minutes older..
Closed out the program after it synced and found the same error message except it now has multiple versions of the archive.
I have to admit I am completely lost about how to go about fixing this. What set am I supposed to use?

How are you launching moneydance? It sounds like you are double clicking an .moneydancearchive file to launch MD. This is wrong and will restore a dataset.
You should open from the MD app icon, always….

I am using the MD app icon.
I opened MD on the laptop and when I closed out, it did it's usual file sync but when finished an error message popped up stating something about now having two data files and not being able to merge. (I think the message comes from OneDrive where my MD files sync to but I don't have more info because that message disappeared)
Here is what I am getting when I try to open MD on the laptop again (See attachment)
Not sure what file to use. The two dated April 12 are the renamed files (archives?) The
top one dated April 13 is the original file name

In order to determine what might be causing the problem, please can you provide the information below:
Which version and build of Moneydance are you using on each computer? To check, open Moneydance and select Moneydance/Help --> About Moneydance
Is your data file stored in the default location in the primary computer?
Please note: if you are syncing your data with a mobile device, or another system - you should NOT move your data file to a shared folder location, like Dropbox. The file should remain on your local system if your data is being synced or shared, as outlined here.
Dropbox Folder or Dropbox Connection, other?
If so, you can re-set sync starting from this machine.
if it is not the primary (we will send you the relevant steps to achieve this)
on the secondary computer (from the Welcome window - in your last screenshot) you could select:
'Create New Account Set'-> Open Synced File->Select the same sync method as the primary computer->enter the passphrase to match the primary computer.

Thank you Maddie for your response.
Which version and build of Moneydance are you using on each computer?
I am using 2023.1 (5006) on my Desktop computer and on my Laptop
Is your data file stored in the default location in the primary computer?
I am not sure if the data file is in the default location on my Primary computer (my Desktop). When I go Moneydance to Help --> Show Documents Folder it shows
C:\Users\xxxx\.moneydance\Documents.
Is that correct location?
There are various folders in that .moneydance\Documents folder, is there something specific I am looking for?
"Please note: if you are syncing your data with a mobile device, or another system - you should NOT move your data file to a shared folder location, like Dropbox."
I am syncing my data with my mobile devices and trying to do so with my Laptop
Dropbox Folder or Dropbox Connection, other?
Both the desktop and the Laptop are syncing to Dropbox Folder
Looking at my local Dropbox folder I am seeing a .Moneydancesync folder and within that is another folder dated today which is when I opened Moneydance today.
Finally, is your most recent data showing correctly on at least one of your computers?
It appears that the data on my Desktop is correct.
I have not proceeded with the remaining steps you wrote, (If so, you can re-set sync starting from this machine. etc), thought I would wait for you to see what I information have provided above.

Thank you for the additional information.
You could run the latest update on both computers and restart Moneydance.
Then, on the secondary computer, navigate to 'Create a New Account Set' and in the resulting window Open Synced File->Dropbox Folder->Next. You will see a list of recently synced files, there you should select the same file as the primary computer, enter the same passphrase and that will be it.
If the problem persists, I will send you the steps for resetting sync from scratch.
Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!

Maddy, so far it seems like the issue has been resolved. I will open a new ticket if the issue pops up again.
Thank you very much for your help.
