I'm having some problems setting up MD for online banking in several of my accounts. All of these had worked in Quicken and I'm pretty sure they were direct connect and not web connect.

American Funds connection produces the following error
Bank Name: American Funds. The error code reported by the server was: 2000. Information for this account is currently unavailable. I am using my account number as the login ID (same as with Quicken)
TD Ameritrade Institutional produces this error (selected TD Ameritrade and used same credentials as Quicken). Note that this is an institutional account (https://nextgen.advisorclient.com)
The given customer ID or PIN is not valid. For more information, contact your financial institution. Additional information from the server:. Signon invalid
With Wells Fargo Mortgage, I'm pretty sure I had a direct connect with Quicken but with MD, I cannot even select the menu item to set up online banking. Option is greyed out.

I am also wondering how to establish an existing share balance in an investment account. In my 401K, MD downloaded the last two months of transactions and my share balance only reflects those transactions. I just want to start tracking the account in MD from this day forward, how do I establish the current share balances?

P.S. Do you ever see a time that you will be able to automatically download via web connect through your interface?

    Hello,

Are you certain you were using direct connect for these accounts and not web connect? The errors you describe are consistent with what many banks send out if accounts have not been activated for direct connections. Verifying that your accounts have been activated for this seems like the next step. Even if they have been, it would appear that you are using incorrect login information for at least one of them, according to the error message, so verifying that information would be necessary.

Thank you. I checked into it and it does appear that there were some different credentials required than what I recalled. I'll check that out later today.

Do you have any idea for my other two questions?

    Best regards.

If you do not want to set up the history of your fund what you could do is at the date you want to start you enter a misc income transaction with the value of the fund in the account then use a buy transaction to record the number of units you hold plus their value at that date of the security.

I'll give that a shot. May I suggest consideration of an "add shares" transaction type in investment registers in some future update?

My specific account has 14 years of history. I'm skeptical that all the data would come across.

Thanks. You'd likewise want to have a "remove shares" also.

The problem with having a basic Add and Remove shares option is that you lose the ability to have a cost basis and thus cannot generate the correct capital gains amounts. In Quicken it was fine to use these transactions for rounding purposes and in Mutual funds Quicken did understand that Add & remove denotes changes in overall fund value.

FWIW Add & Remove shares transaction types have been suggested before.
