Toolbox Extension

The Toolbox extension was developed by a Moneydance customer and contributor, Stuart Beesley (StuWareSoftSystems).

This extension allows you to view data file and program information, run diagnostics, fix issues, and change settings.

You can follow the steps in this article to install the Toolbox extension.

Using the Toolbox extension -

Once you have installed the Toolbox extension, select Extensions > Toolbox.

The extension window will open, as shown below, displaying lots of useful information and several options.

On this initial screen, you can scroll down the main window to see information about the program and your data file, such as -

Moneydance version and build
Current/old license key
Dataset name, location, size
Syncing and encryption information
Runtime environment

Using Basic Mode -

The extension will open in Basic mode.
This is read-only. Therefore information can be viewed but the file/program cannot be modified.

Select one of the menu items in the grey boxes at the top of the extension window. This will open a new window with the read-only functions displayed at the top.

In the screenshot below, we've selected "MENU: General Tools".

Select the required function, e.g. "View MD Config File".
Then select "Proceed" at the bottom right of the window.

A new window will open displaying the required information.

Using Update/Advanced Mode -

Before using Update mode, we recommend you take a manual backup of your data file.
Select "Create Backup" in the green box at the top left of the extension window.
Choose "Do Backup Now", and specify the location of the .moneydancearchive backup file.

At the top of the extension window, enable Update mode.

This is "Advanced Mode" in older versions of Toolbox.

Accept the disclaimer, and create a backup file if you haven't already.

You will see some of the menu options have changed colour, so the font is red. These menu options contain Update mode functions.

Select one of the menu items in the grey boxes at the top of the extension window. This will open a new window with the Update functions displayed in red.

In the screenshot below, we've selected "MENU: General Tools".

Select the required function, e.g. "Rename this dataset".
Then select "Proceed" at the bottom right of the window.

Depending on the function you require, there may be some additional questions about the changes you'd like to make. Follow the prompts and confirm the changes.

You will be advised once the changes are completed.

Extension Menu Options -

Downloading the Toolbox extension also installs three new options available within the Extensions menu -

Move Investment Transactions
This allows you to move the transactions you have selected in the visible Investment register.

Total Selected Transactions
This will total up the transactions you have selected in the register.

Zap md+/ofx/qif (default) memo fields
This will search for and zap memo fields on downloaded transactions when the memo field matches the downloaded data.
