Downloads Methods
There are three ways to download your transactions into Moneydance -
OFX Direct Connect
Moneydance supports free automatic downloads to many banks and financial institutions using a connection called OFX Direct Connect.
You can download information through Direct Connect into bank, credit card, and investment accounts if your bank supports this service.
Using Direct Connect allows Moneydance to connect to a server at your bank (instead of their website) and usually requires different login credentials than you would use to log into your bank's website.
On this page you can check which financial institutions we have already established a connection with.
If your bank is listed, you can follow the steps in this article to set up Direct Connect.
It's important to note that there are other connection methods (sometimes used by other personal finance programs) called Web Connect and Express Web Connect. If your bank only supports these connection methods, you'll be unable to use Direct Connect.
If your financial institution has advised they support OFX Direct Connect access, but they are not shown on the supported list - please contact us. You can email support@infinitekind.com or create a discussion on the support forum.
Manual Downloads
If your bank doesn't support Direct Connect, you are still able to download your transactions for free.
You can download OFX, QFX or QIF files from your banks website.
You can follow the steps in this article to import transactions downloaded from your bank's website.
You can also download and import CSV files.
However, the import process for CSV files is much more involved than any other standard format.
For this reason, we recommend using OFX, QFX, or QIF files whenever possible.
The steps for importing CSV files are outlined in this article.
Moneydance+
Moneydance 2022 and newer versions include a new (optional) subscription service called Moneydance+.
This service allows you to download transactions from your banks using the Plaid aggregator.
You can read more about Moneydance+ in this blog post.
Moneydance+ allows you to download all of your transactions from financial institutions, even if those institutions do not support OFX Direct Connect.
You can find the steps for subscribing to and setting up Moneydance+ in this section of the knowledge base.
At this time, this service allows you to download transactions from banks in the US and Canada banks.
We're working to include EU and UK banks, and we hope this will be available soon.
